ok...like HOW does one get an avatar?

I get how to pluck on e off your comp, but even though the file size is small enough, the pixel count or whatever it is, is too big. HOw do I shrink my photo down small enough to use as an avatar? :augh:

You need to go into a program like PhotoShop, or perhaps even something as simple as MS Paint, and resize the picture so it's 80X80 (or less). If this makes things as clear as mud, send me an e-mail, or come to chat tonight (Tuesday night) and we'll see if we can get you through it.

Well, you'd have to resize it using a graphics program or use an online image shrinker like GifWorks http://www.gifworks.com/

Wellp.

I SORTA got it working. Don't exactly like how tiny I turned out, or how unclear it is...but I'm sure I'll get it figured eventually. At least I got something to APPEAR. Not bad for an utter neophyte and devil may care computer operator. :lumpy:

You can email it to me and I'll make it bigger if you'd like... you know where to find me :)

Hey hon... minor problem (truly minor, since I could always do this from home, but I'm doing it from work instead). Got anything that'll shrink a jpg? I'm just clipping my profile pic and using it as an avatar for the moment... but it's a jpg. gifworks is great for... gifs. :sigh:

I COULD just do this at home... but then I'd have to justify not cleaning my house in time for the parental units to visit for the holidays...

Anything online for jpgs? Or do you know of an online converter I can pop it into?

Cyd (I need to brush up, man...)

Nothing online - cant find anything for jpegs (otherwise I woulda posted it) - just email me the image and I'll shrink it.

I can't snag the picture itself, it's restricted. Comes out as 985285235.jpg when I copy it local.

Thanks, hon! :) I think it's the only remaining copy of that pic, since the school account it used to be on finally caught up with me (six years after I graduated) and nixed my account...

'Preciate it! :)

I'm not sure what you mean by restricted. That filename is normal - all the uploaded images are renamed to ensure that no-one overwrites someone elses pic.

But anyway, your avatar is up. :)

Restricted as in, can't open in new window. So I couldn't tell you the global link. It won't let me do the rightclick thing and just tell you where the pic was.

Thanks tho! :D

OHHH... I see... :)

Welp, its here, if you needed to know: http://www.wench.org/members/memberpics/985285235.jpg

Odd that you can't right click tho... I don't have anything set up to prevent it on those pages...

Weird. :)

It blocks off the ability to open the image in a new window. For that matter, it blocks off anything in the top righclick section. It WILL let you save it as wallpaper or copy it, but that's about it. But the ability to see the location (by opening in new window or otherwise) doesn't seem to exist, at least not for me. :augh:

Perhaps I have my IE settings off? I rarely use IE (but the entire wench page slows down if I use netscape). :sigh:

But, I now have avatar. This is a good thing. Thanks, hon! :bananada:

I like the banana...

Cyd (I may grab that pic for wallpaper anyway... ;)

*shrug* I dunno - there's nothing set up in that page to prevent any of that - and I can do it on that page. Hard to tell. But at least you gots yer avatar now :)

Alianne,

*blush* Trust me, it's the photographer... Daddy used to be a wedding photographer, he could make even the mud guys look good...

Your avatar looks great! :)

Don't sell yourself short. (I know, we're already short. <g>)

The thing I love about the photo is that if it were noodled around with in a good graphics program to make it look like a painting, it *would* look like a Renaissance portrait. It's beautiful, and you're lovely in it.

I admit to doing a little photomanip on my avatar photo, mainly to even out some of the effect the lighting had on my skintone and to even out some of the shadows....

Which reminds me, mam'selle, you need to send me your photo so we can post it on the Mount Hope Muses site!

Leah honey, you have NO idea what I did to my christmas card photo this year... it was the new year's day wedding photo of joe and myself, and I was horrified by part of how I looked (and joe wasn't happy because that happened to be the day he wound up with a... blemish... on his nose). So, I used photoshop just a bit. :)

I'll just say that I made him a whole lot happier with his nose, and I got a facelift.

My father didn't figure it out until I showed him the two pictures side by side... and then he went ape over just how much I'd managed to change without it being noticable... who me? ;)

Skin tone evening out is a given with Joe pictures anyway... His skin is just translucent enough that flash photography brings out the ultraviolet spectrum... (my dad said that some of the translucent blue prom dresses that he used to see when he took pictures used to drive him nuts... because what looked like blue in person would turn out magenta pink in photographs...) I nearly always have to doctor his photos to get the red out. Otherwise he looks like he's got a constant cold, his nose will be bright red in every picture... Gives that jolly old st nick impression. :)

Doctoring photos up is fine... as long as you still look like you. The day I see a picture of you that makes you look like someone else, then I'll worry. :)

Cyd (someday, my sig will show...)

Well, I think my avatar is appropriate enough.
