View Full Version : For moderators - how to edit/delete/merge posts and threads

These screenshot should help. First let's be sure everyone knows the difference between a POST and a THREAD. A post is a single reply, whereas the thread is the entire topic including ALL posts about it.

To delete a post within a thread, find the checkbox in the top right corner of the post itself (right near the "report user" and "reputation" icons), and then select an action from the moderation menu down at the bottom. (see image (http://www.wench.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=22&stc=1&d=1136507462) - figure 1a and 1b)

To perform thread functions, such as deleting an entire thread, closing a thread, etc - use the Thread Tools drop down menu. (see image (http://www.wench.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=23&stc=1&d=1136507462))

To get to the edit post screen, simply use the edit button embedded in the post area - the same one you see when you're looking at your own posts. (see image (http://www.wench.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=22&stc=1&d=1136507462) - figure 2)

When you click on Edit, you will see a simple edit screen which can be used to correct a quick typo, but is typically not recommended, since it does not allow you to give a reason for editing. Instead, click on the "Go Advanced" button (the same kind you see when you edit your own posts), and you will see a page wit two sections: delete and edit.

To edit a post, the screen will look very similar to the screen you see when you edit your own posts. Please remember to enter a reason for editing the post so that everyone knows why moderators are stepping in. (see image (http://www.wench.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=25&stc=1&d=1136508119))

To delete a post, use that same edit screen. If you delete the post that started the thread, you will be deleting the entire thread.

To delete a post, select "delete message" or "physically remove message". Deleting a message will leave a shadow of that post in the thread itself, with your reason for deleting it, if you provide one. Permanently deleting the post will do just that - remove it with no shadow. (see image (http://www.wench.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=24&stc=1&d=1136508119))
