(Crossposted at NYRF_Rennies and Rogues)

There will be a St. Patrick's Day parade in Kingston, NY on either Sunday, March 12 or Sunday, March 19 (TBA) and we want the Kingston Renaissance Faire represented by as many Rennies as possible, in full garb, holding a ren faire banner (or two or three), make a lot of noise, toss coins into the crowd (redeemable at the faire) and generally make our presence known in this, the largest attendance event in Kingston (100,000 people, or so I'm told). And afterwards...

...a party complete with booze in our own private space. We're looking into facilities now but it'll be relatively inexpensive ($10 a head or something, $5 for non-drinkers.) And yes, there will be yummy food.

Lemme know if you're interested, I'm doing a head count so we know how much snackage and booze to buy.

If it's the 19th, there's a very good chance that Kate and I would be able to make it.

Might be able to do the 12th too, but the 19th is almost certain.

What time does the parade start? What time is the muster? I'm sooooo not a morning person.... ::sleepy:: ::needcoffee::

Historically it is the Sunday before the 17th, but we are still waiting for the website to update. The parade is at 1, muster about 12:30 or so.

So this is different than the message I saw on the Rogues board wanting people to work the faire right?

I can't commit to multiple weekends but a one shot event...maybe.

Pathos, the parade is in March but will be used to help drum up interest in the one weekend faire that will be held in May. I believe Diane (Galleywench) is in the process of negotiating for a location to hold the faire. There was some talk of using the Ulster County Fairgrounds in New Paltz, NY.

About how long is the parade route and what's the terrain? Flat? Hilly?

If wences are in the parade then I'd imagine it would be quite hilly. ;-)

Gak. Obviously I meant "wenches", not "wences". :unamused:

Of course, a parade of Senior Wenceses might be fun too....

The route is about 2 miles long and fairly flat ...one fairly good hill but it is downhill during this parade (the Memorial day parade goes the other direction) the rest is not unpleasant.

COOKIES! Little John wants COOKIE! :)

Another question -- since the parade is Sunday, will the party be Saturday night? I think the majority of those who might do the parade will a) have some distance to drive back Sunday night and b) either can't or wouldn't want to take Monday off to avoid driving back Sunday night.....

If the party's on Saturday night, who's going to be in any condition to march in a parade on Sunday?

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather deal with that than trying to drive 3 hours Sunday night after a party.....

Marching a parade is no fun with a hangover. Did the Wildwood American Legion parade that way many moons ago and I still wonder how I managed to get through it!

For what it's worth, a 1:00 parade would probably be over by 3:00 and my initial thought is that the gathering would be an afternoon thing. As for driving home, guess it means that folks would have to drink responsibly.

Unfortunatly the local parade is March 12, so the boy child and I won't be able to venture north to this one.

Indeed. Party is after the parade on Sunday the 12th and figure about until 8:00 or so. If we go a little bit later, it's okay. As long as people are safe to drive.

WHAT: The St. Patty's Day Parade in Kingston, NY

WHEN: Sunday, March 12, muster at **10:30 AM**

WHERE: Kingston Plaza, 100 Schwenck Blvd, Kingston, NY 12401
We'll meet at the AMES end of the plaza (opposite end of Hannaford).

WHY: To make as much noise as possible to bring awareness to the Hudson Valley Mayfaire to the 100,000 or so people who annually attend. Make noise, wear garb, wave at people and toss coins at their feet (lest we pelt them in the head and be sued).

AFTER: PARTY! Yup. We'll be holding a party as thanks to all the Rennies who contributed. The wheres and whens of the party will be announced at the parade. :)

Dress in garb, presumably. Any guidelines?

Absolutely. :)

>> Any guidelines?

Other than show in force, make plenty of noise and show the good people of Kingston what a ren faire is all about? Nah, not really. :) Oh, and have fun at the party.

Here's the link for the location in Google to make it easier. (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=100+Schwenk+Dr,+Kingston,+NY+12401&ll=41.931145,-74.020472&spn=0.044123,0.10849)

I've asked Galleywench to confirm the muster time of 10:30 but I do know that the horses and those associated with the horses need to be there at 10:30. While I find it odd that the parade officials need those not associated with the horses (meaning the vast majority) there, I'm confirming. It may still be 12:30 but to be on the safe side, check back here for confirmation.

LittleJohn25

Just got confirmation: indeed, the muster time is 10:30. Once everyone has arrived and is checked in, go get breakfast, etc. The parade officials need the actual numbers of those who are marching so they can organize the order in which people march.

Apparently, they like doing things last minute. I'd apologize for the parade officials but I've nothing to do with them. Instead, I'll be sure to flick something nasty at each of them for each of you marching who showed up nice and early.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Ooo, it just occurred to me. Those of us coming from a ways away, where would we park? ::tinfoil:

The parking lot where we'll be meeting is fairly massive so there should be room to park at the kick off.

I've gotten a small amount of concerns from some who cannot attend because the kickoff is at 10:30 and not 12:30 as originally stated. While we cannot help this as it's a parade organizer request, I certainly understand it if some will not attend because of the 2 1/2 hour wait.

BUT... for the party afterwards, we've been planning on previous figures of 20-25 people in total. Galleywench is purchasing all the food but I fear with some dropping out, she may end up spending more than is necessary. Might I have another head count?

Remember, it's scheduled to be a BEAUTIFUL day of 55 degrees with only a 30% chance of some light rain AND we have a party after. Come out and join us. Free cookies! :)

Free cookies?!? Well that settles it. I'm not coming, I hate cookies.

Just kidding, I'm really looking foward to this and I'll be there! Will these be Wench cookies ::pray::

For anyone considering not coming because of the wait you can certainly try and arrive closer to the step off BUT be aware that after 11:00 almost ALL of the roads that lead to where the muster is will be closed and the extra time spent walking from where you'll have to park might mean missing us completely...unless you park near broadway somewhere and just jump in mid way...not recommended at all but it is an idea to ponder. And, hey it could be worse, the Macy's day muster is 5AM inthe middle of November! The parade organizers have literally hundreds of participants to get in order and make sure they step off in a way that runs smoothly...remember this is THE biggest event in Kingston (which is THE biggest city in Ulster county)...there are LOTS of ducks to get in a row, so two hours before stepping off is certainly reasonable.

The weather is supposed to be great and the company will absolutely be fun :)

I'm sad....I really want to go but I can't. The local parade is on the 12th, and I need to march with my fire department. Otherwise, I'd be up there in a heartbeat.
