Greetings all,
I have a question that perhaps some of you can help out with. Brian & I are going away in a few weeks to Disney (yay!) but we have to find someone to take car of our dog. I've already arranged to board her at my vet's office for the week that we are away, but his parents have generously offered to take care of her for us. The problem is, she is loud & obnoxious compared to the 3 female dogs that they have...so much so that they are afraid of her. Any suggestions as to how we can work this out as far as his folks taking care of our pooch? Or should we just take her over to the vet's as we originally planned to do? Thanks for listening. ;-)

Sweetie, on this, I would say to go with your first instinct.
I think your fur baby and Brian's parents fur babies will all be happier in the long run if yours goes to the vet and "Doggy Day Camp".
This way, there's no hard feelings if an incident may have occurred.

take the pooch to the vet but maybe your relatives could go visit or play w him at the vets so he still feels loved.
I usually take an old t-shirt and wear it to bed a few nights and leave it for my cats when i go away do they can smell me. I ususally find them curled up in it when i get home.- donno if this works with dogs ;-)

I know your Problem. The wench and myself were going away on our Honeymoon and my mother offered. Our Doggie is a whinner wich is just annoying as all and on the occasions we have had him to visit his grandmother, all the other other dogs made a bee line somewhere else. I say go with your first instinct and for the sanity of all in involved.

This would be the opiton I would take. I was away for several weeks and had my cats stay with the vet instead of with my sister and her cat. It's to emeotional for all involved. Your relatives could visit and that may set your mind at ease.

I've done both, and neither is great. What works best for us is to have a friend stay at our house and 'house sit'. I know this isn't an option you've put before us, but it really is great if you can find someone.

I always like this option the best. I don't know if you have nay where you are, but we hired a pet sitter when my family went away. She came twice a day to feed, water and play with the fur-babies, water the plants, change the lights. We had her come for 3 days and I think it only cost us $50. (but we gave her a hell of a tip) We liked this the best, the babies could stay home where they were comfortable and we trusted the person who came over to feed them.

I house-sit for some people's pets as does my sister and best friend. I have found that the pets stay happier and prefer being in their own environment. My sister and I charge $25/day if we don't move in. $30 if we move in and live with the animals (usually for the old or sick pets). I know a professional pet sitter and she charges $30/day. That includes visiting 4 times a day, feeding and exercising your furbaby. She is insured and bonded too.
You can also ask at your vets. Many vet techs do house sitting for customers. I know that 2 at my vets do this for customers. It wouldn't hurt to ask. Good luck.

Well, we also have 3 cats, but they are staying @ home. My best friend's mom has graciously offered to take care of them for us when we go away (my best friend is going with us, otherwise she would do it for us.) I dunno if at this stage of the game it would be polite to ask her to look after the dog as well. She is quick & powerful, something my friend's mom isn't used to, as their dog is fairly old & slow.
Also, I don't know if I can trust the dog home by herself all day long without getting into trouble. She has separation anxiety, which has calmed down a lot since we got her. I mean, during the week, she is fine, because we come home at night. I would really rather not take her to the vet's office & spend that kind of money to board her.

I'm coming a little late to the table, here, I know, but you could always take her with you and board her at Disney. They have kennels there for exactly this reason.
