Saw it! Home now!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! ::pirate::
It was awesome!!! I thought maybe it would be too much of, oh, I do'nt know, strange monsters? But totally not!!! I thought it was great!
***spoiler begins***
I won't say too much, but yea, stay until the end (as Drea Beth so kindly pointed out in another post) and it pissed me off at the end a little. Not that it wasn't good, but it didn't particularly end. It sort of started. I guess it's the jumping off point for the third one. It reminded me of how mad I got after Lord of the Rings ended, or didn't end.
***spoiler ends***
So there ya go!

I agree. It had and Empire Strikes Back, Two Towers feel to it. And I think I will be irked untill number 3 comes out.

Yup, it was a major bummer that the end was more like the beginning of the next movie, which should be interesting, given who appeared in the last minutes. The Monkey's words of wisdom were something to the effect of "it it's more than two years before the next one it's really going to piss me off"! That said, it was well worth staying up for. Is it 4:00 pm yet? ::sleepy::

Already knowing the cast line-up for 3 kinda gives away the plot.
But after seeing 2, as wierd as it got at time, I still can't wait :)

The next one, I hear, begins filming in September...
Don't know when I'll get to see 2, the theaters around me are sold out through the weekend it seems...

I think they filmed 2 and 3 concurrently. Maybe they're going back and doing a few reshoots... Isn't the next one due out May 2007?

We all dressed up and turned out for the midnight showing as well.
I thought it was ok. Not nearly a genuine in the humor department as the first one. I also felt that they tried to cram too many different sub-plots into it. You've got Jack and the treasure hunt; Will and Elizabeth; Will and his Pops; Jack and Elizabeth; Norrington; The East India Company versus the world.....good grief, it sounds like a soap opera!
The monsters were creepy....but strangely fitting with the stories I've been told of Davvy Jones. Of course, Bill Nighy RAWKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I don't think that man could make a bad movie!) It was nice to see that along the same lines as LOTR, they kept the cast together.
I, for one, thought the ending just fine. But then, I already knew what was plotted for POTC III, so it was of little suprise. (One of the benefits of working in the cinema industry I guess.) I'm totally stoked to see #III!!!!!!!!!!
All in all, worth the lack of sleep. Even my son came along, dressed in all his pirate-y swag. He made it until the last 15 minutes, and then just CRASHED. He's currently wandering around looking like the walking dead......

Winnie, you are correct on both accounts. They did film the majority of III concurrent with II, they're now just finishing up some of the major scenes, and yes, the scheduled release date for III is Memorial Day 2007.

I need to go back and see it again. My husband walked into the theater expecting to hate it and he did. It's just no fun when you have someone rolling their eyes, sighing and muttering throughout the movie.
It was a fun movie & I had a good time.
I could have done without 80% of the people being screaming 14 year old girls. Everytime a character made their appearance they screamed and you couldn't hear their lines.
Sooooo tired. ::needcoffee::

The two year thing reminds me of my sweet little mommy, all five feet of her in the movie theater when Empire Strikes Back was on the screen (yes it was a loooong time ago)

I'll have to ask my friend Jay if he's working set construction again for 3. I may go see 2 in the theater if he and I can work out a time both of us can go...I'd love to see his name in the credits, and hear more of his behind-the-scenes stories. I've heard a few...he got to go diving off the stern of the Black Pearl with Depp and Bloom, among other experiences....If he ends up working on 3, I'll pass along any stories he comes back with.

Local 9 just got home from our evening out, and there was MUCH rejoicing.
It really was kind of...well, not pointless, but without a real ending. But it was SO much fun along the way that I very much enjoyed it anyhow.
I announced with much authority at the diner afterwards that Bob Anderson had choreographed the sword fights (as he did in POTC I), but now I can't seem to find his name-- or anyone else's, for that matter-- credited with the job.
Anyone know?

LOVED the movie, can't wait for POTC3! Not many in garb other than myself, my cousin and her wenchlettes. We had quite a few compliments and a lot of fun. I have to admit I wish there had been more wenches with us, but alas we did our best.

Just got back from seeing it, I hated that it didn't really end just set up the next movie but I loved the fact that Elizabeth got to kick some ass! The makeup and special effects were awesome. There were definetly alot of screaming giggling 14 year olds who just had to scream everytime Orlando Bloom came on screen.

I loved it. I really had a good time with it, I thought it moved well, had good fight scenes, and I felt it was more "colorful" than the 1st. The ending didn't bother me so much, but the post credit thing was just silly. I loved the voodoo chick! I can't wait for the 3rd one to come out.

Just saw it today! Loved it loved it loved it. The costumes were a lot of fun. I too am somewhat pissed at the ending, especially since
*spoiler* skip past if you haven't seen it!!!
Things are so unresolved with Will and Elizabeth after that bit with Eliz and Sparrow. What's Will thinking? No accusations? Nothing? That bugged me more than anything else I think. I can wait to see what happens with the rest, but that I want to know NOW!

Maybe Will's not going to say anything because she *did* cuff him and leave him to die? That was some kiss though...definitely some genuine feeling there.... :D

I know! We saw more passion there than anything we've seen between Will and her. Plus we have that whole compass pointing towards Jack thing.
*starts counting months until PoC3 comes out* Honestly though, who wouldn't be torn between Depp and Bloom? How does one pick?

But Will didn't see that. He saw his love passionately kiss his "friend" and then they leave. At the end when the creepy voodoo lady asks if they want to get him back, Will says yes without hesitation. I thought it was all a little weird...
Did anyone stay around until after the credits? Very short, but funny clip at the end.

Ya know maybe it's me cuz Johnny Depp doesn't do anything for me (LOVE his acting though don't get me wrong) but I just kept thinking when was the last time he brushed his teeth? What did that taste/smell like? LOL I'm hoping Will doesn't do the "honorable" thing and quietly step aside in the 3rd movie, that would just burn my toast man! Get pissed off, call her a whore, try to cut his throat out, ya know what I mean?:)

GAWDS! I could not agree more! Although the "passion" wasn't shown much on the screen between the two, Wil and Liz had something really honerable and loyal. As much as it would SUCK ASS...it wouldn't surprise me to see Wil step back and let her free to do as she wishes...after all, Norrington did it for him in the first. But still... :pfft:

GAH!!!!! Saw the movie Monday night!!!! WHOOT!!!! I loved it. There were alot of surprises, but alot of them were kinda obvious. Like the person who showed up at the end..I knew it. But the sword scenes were amazing!!! Johnny Depp did wonderful. He truely is Capt. Jack Sparrow. My partner Kenny was in FL last week, and he said Johnny Depp was in Magic Kingdom the same day he was. He said people were walking around with his autograph and everything. I yelled at him for not putting forth any effort to get a autograph for me lol. He told me they changed the POTC ride in Disney World and put Capt. Jack Sparrow in it at a couple places. He says the statues look at exactly like him you could hardly tell the difference!!!
The movie rocked and i cannot wait until 3 comes out!!!

Hey, ask your friend if it's true they took out the part of the ride where the pirate's chasing the wench because it wasn't PC. I used to love seeing the wench being chased and the lady chasing her husband with the rolling pin and I was SO livid when I heard that, I hope it's not true:-P
