I guess you all realize that with a name like Toad it is unlikely that I am a Wench... I actually found this site because I was searching the net for Azure Warthog and a link brought me here... After I saw some names that I knew I figured I would check out the site a bit... Its a great forum!!!

My ties to the Renn Faires goes back to... ummmm... well... (to date myself)... 1985 thru 1988 when I was working at the PaRF. One day a few friends and I visited and I met a young wench named Amanda & Liz (who were both from the Johnstown, PA area... they convinced me to seek some employment at the Faire and I found a job selling peanuts for the dude that owned the windmill building... well the peanuts turned out to be a problem because of an exchange between me and a female patron about trying my warmed nuts... so I was put on a Leonardo's Ice cart... which worked much better... soon I was moved to a pretzel tree from which I hung a pottery beerbug that had lots of jinglebells hanging from it...

A young wench who was working at the faire came up and asked if she could buy a bell and I quickly said that they weren't for sale... she asked how to get one and I said she could have one for a kiss... well over the next few weeks I had given all my bells away... and many of the wenches at (including the Queen at the time) the faire had them tied to their own mugs, tied to wrists... or hanging from other parts of thier bodies... I had to get more bells and those were also were given away... it was fun.

Eventually I was taken to the Azure Warthog where I became fast friends with Dobbs, Vlad, Seph, Bill, Will... (does anyone remember Karen from Lititz?)... Soon they were letting me sleep on the floor at the top of the steps on weekends. So no longer staying at the Mt Hope Motel....

In 1987 I was selling pretzels when I met a long lady that took away my heart... I fell in love that day and she asked me to join her on the kissing bridge. We kissed and I managed to get her phone number (without going out of character) and we stayed together for 8 months or so... then we broke up... then I ran to the one place that would make me happy... back to the Renn Faire... this time selling weapons. This was a great job and I totally enjoyed it... then it happened... the young lady came back to the faire... looking for me... she found me... we fell inlove all over again and we eventually got married... Today Lisa and I are still married and we have two wonderful daughters Anna Elizabeth and Zoe Issabella. They are 8 and 4 year old. I am sure we will be bringing them to the PaRF and maybe one day they will have their own adventures at the faire...

Sorry this was so long... but you asked...

Not to be a complete bitch ladies, but not every guy who comes here is a Rogue - or a rogue for that matter.

I'm just sayin'...

That being said, Welcome to the Boards Toad.

If you ask the right people you will get the right answer... some who knew me would say I was and some that I wasn't... thanks for the welcome Lady Sarah.

Most people that knew me back then either really liked me or really hated me. There wasn't many who settled on middle ground. One young wench realized the best way to cut me to the bone was to tell me that I was "just a guy"... and that was the last thing she ever said to me... I deserved it.

Well, I didn't say it to be mean. When I get mad enough to be mean, you'll know it. Ask Dmitri, he's seen me get mean once or twice.

No, I said what I said simply because it's a reaction I've seen to every guy that shows up here on the boards - "OH!! A new rogue to play with!!" Well, I"m sorry, he's probably a nice guy, but not every guy is a rogue and I take the concept of a rogue very seriously. So do a lot of the Rogues here as well. All the same, I'll wait until I see more of your personality here on the boards before I say one way or the other. I'm funky like that.

And frankly, until I see more you *are* just a guy - a new guy we know nothing about short of the brief description of in your first post. It's just the same way that I'm just a girl. 8-)

Well... I have pretty thick skin and I am a very silly person... so it really takes lots to insult me and even more to make me angry... Yes... I am just a guy till I can prove myself to all of you... so far you have made me feel quite welcome...

Its actually nice to think back to my days at the faire... They were alway fun... alway enjoyable.

To date I have only been to a few faires... PA, MD, the two faires in NY, the faire near Plymouth, MA. I had also been to a faire at Bushkill Falls in PA... it was a faire that was started by a large number of disgruntled PaRF participant who left when the PA Faire went "commercial". I also ran wild with a group of people from NY/NJ called "Falo" (Fantasy and Legends Organization).

Well I'm sure the PARF wenches would be happy to welcome you back!!! A lot has changed in 20 years. There might even be a few faces you'll recognize. Were Lance and Laura running a few of the food boothes back then? On the boards, Ysobelle (http://wench.org/forums/member.php?u=11) (Nikki) and pngwnmama (http://wench.org/forums/member.php?u=25) (Betty) might have been around then, I'm not sure.
Make sure you let us know if you can make it one weekend!! If you do come back, I'd love to see pictures of the shire from the 80's if you have any!
Well, once again, welcome back!

WOW... a blast from the past... When I first started I worked for the dude that Lance got the booth from... or maybe they were partners at first... I dont remember his name... Mustachioed fello... If I think about it I will remember his name... however when I came back itr was for Lance and Laura... They will remember me well I'm sure... Laura was, and I'm sure is, such a nice person... One of my favorite people at the fair... Im pretty sure she got to meet my daughter Anna a couple of years ago. Lnace was always a good "faire" boss. Wow... Lance and Laura... just hearing the names in my head makes me fairesick (like being homesick). I miss the fun but I love my life now...

By 1988 I was working at Bills weapon shop in "the shire". I was working there with my best friend Turk. We were terrorizing the countryside with a black 67 Buick that we cut the roof off with hacksaws... and he painted a skull on the hood. Some of the group might remember the car.

The weapons I was selling were the fancy weapons from a booth... not the nice weapons from the forge. 1988 was also the year that my ex-girlfriend Lisa came back to the faire looking for me... and found me... the rest... was history.

It eally is fun remembering the faire... thats to all of you for letting me share.

First off, welcome to the forum, enjoy the madness!
I'm sorry to say that I wasn't in attendance at PaRF when you were there (Hey, I was 2, what do you expect?, lol) but I know at least one person who was, and boy does he have some stories to tell...do the words Leatherboy mean anything to ya?

Ysobelle
07-22-2006, 11:27 PM
I just saw Bounti at Fling! She's working on getting a catering business off the ground!

I started hanging at PARF in about, oh, '87 or '88. Started actually DOING the faire in...mmm...'91? Then every year til '96, when I came off the road and didn't do any shows for a while. I've been back on the Shire since 2001, and it's been MUCH fun. I have my own shop this year, selling corsets. It's changed A LOT.

But oh, I remember the parties as Nonesuch. I remember the night the guys took revenge on some poor, hapless schmuck who'd crashed the party and passed out drunk on the couch. They cut his hair and drew all over his face with markers. I'm STILL mad at myself that I didn't stop 'em.

Do you remember Layne? Oh, and Laura still has the jewelry booth!

Do you remember Layne? Oh, and Laura still has the jewelry booth!

Layne does ring a bell... almost sure I know the name. Im glad Laura is still there. If our workload is light after we get back from the Outer Banks then we will try to make the faire.

I have seen the fairegrounds about 2 years ago... was there enjoying the faire but didn;t see any faces I remember except for Will who was selling waterice at the Joust... oh and ofcourse one of the Jousters... Paul. I was in his wedding when he married my wife's friend Angela. It was nice to see that he found a good thing to do at the faire.

Yeah... its a great story.

As another little part of that story... Lisa came up with her friends and asked if I would join her on the kissing bridge... I quickly agreed and escorted her to the bridge. At the same time a young boy came up to buy a pretzel. Well... I didn;t want to miss the kiss so I asked the boy to fold the pretzel tree while I went to kiss the lass... when I got back I took the tree back a gave the boy a free pretzel for helping me.

That day our first kiss was documented on film by Angela (of "As You Like It Clothing"). It was because of Angela that Lisa and I met. I dont think she is at the faire these days but I think her sister Tina Richards still runs the shop.
