Everyone hold on, we're going into....hyperactive.

Mel Brooks is developing an animated TV series based on his comedy feature "Spaceballs."
Like the 1987 movie, which parodied well-known science-fiction movies, "Spaceballs: The Animated Series" will spoof current blockbusters as well as every genre of entertainment from movies and reality TV to culture and politics.
It is set to debut on cable network G4 in fall 2007. Production has already started on an initial batch of 13 episodes.
Brooks, who will voice two characters in the show, co-wrote the pilot with longtime collaborator Thomas Meehan, who will oversee all writing for the series.

I guess he's doing this instead of the rumored sequel...

I may be in the minority here but I think Mel Brooks is past his prime. He hasn't been really funny since the 70's. Even Spaceballs was only sporadically funny in my opinion.

I couldn't imagine this being very good unless he has a new batch of writers.

Humor is soooooooooooo subjective.
"History of the World, Part 1" had its moments, (for my taste) that were incredible, but some others were flat. But... its the gems that keep me coming back for more. Never know what moment is gonna stick with ya for years.

And I like the possibilities.

Yeah, but you hate pirates... so there. And honestly, not every comedian can be funny 100% of the time - there's going to be dull spots along the way.

I can't wait to check this out... LOVED Spaceballs.

My boys love Spaceballs!! I think that they have just about worn out the tape we have of it. (Maybe I will see if I can get it in dvd for them. Be a nice x-mas surprise for them.)

Too bad for the boys, I don't have tv reception up here. And I refuse to pay what they want for cable or satellite. *rotfl*(Maybe that is why they are wearing out the movie tapes.) I don't think I will let them know about the planned series.

Man, I was looking forward to sequel (although I honestly don't know who he could've gotten for it since actors, stars etc. just aren't very funny or talented anymore). I'm not sure I want to see the animated series as I've been disappointed before.. and yet it's like a train wreck, I don't want to look but don't think I can help myself :::sigh::: I'll probably be sitting in front of the tv watching G4 after all;)

It's true though, Mel Brooks has had a few bombs, Men in Tights was ok but nothing special, and I don't think he's done anything great since Spaceballs (GOTTA love Madeline Kahn in History of the World I though, "Will you all step on the foot at the same time?! My TITS are falling off!!!" ROFL) but I'm interested in seeing anything with his name on it:) I've been hoping the Monty Python crew would get together for one last hurrah but with everyone busy doing their own thing and John Cleese retiring I guess that's just a pipe dream ::le sigh::
