Ok, well the boys have taken it into their heads that they need coats; frock coats, pirate coats, musketeer coats... blah, blah blah :pfft:

Anyway, as their personal Stitch Witch, I'm trying to figure out how to draft a pattern for a men's tailored sleeve. I know it looks sort of like a bell curve at the top, but how much curve?

Anybody got any good suggestions? I hate printed paper patterns (all those marks and notes and stuff confuse me :hmm: ); I work pretty much from measurements and altering drafts from current garments. Ideally, I could find something like the Elizabethan Corset Generator for sleeves!! (I LOVE that thing!)

Thanks!

There is an article in the latest issue of Threads magazine about doing set in sleeves and how to draft the curve. Doesn't look like its available on the website yet, but it's in the July/August issue.

And if you can't find it online, just let me know, and I'll scan in some of my textbooks. I think I have two that have sections on drafting sleeves.

I tend to use either the sleeve from an old pattern or, (if you can get them to stand still long enough, a toile. a toile (b/c I didn't know what to call it untill a few months ago) is a mock up of the pattern from cheap fabric. I'd sugest cuttinga sleave peice about 6" to long and square at both ends, then adjusting it at the top so that you have a square hem for the cuff. To shape it a little closer for the mock up, as I suddenly realize just who much fabric would be at the armpit try angling a cut (with some extra to play with the fit) from wrist to arm pit held out and then wrist to over the shoulder with the arm down at the side. I think that will work....
