Okay! Sorry for repeating myself to those who've read the "looking for a kitten" post--I just made a skirt out of the beautiful light green linen that I got from Abigail--and it's too short for me. The kitties, who love chasing fabric...and ribbons...and yardsticks...made me rush through the laying-out-and-cutting stage, so there we have it. It's a full circle skirt, and is 32" long from the bottom of the waistband--it currently has a 4" waistband on it (in an attempt to make it work for me!), so is a total of 36" long. My bodice isn't long enough and my sashes aren't wide enough to cover the waistband and still have the skirt low enough to not be "too short." If anyone is interested, please please let me know. I can get some pictures if anyone wants them, and cost is negotiable! I don't really care about making a profit on this one, it's more just to cover the fabric cost so that this gorgeous linen doesn't go to waste!!

Why don't you band the hem of the skirt with a matching color or the same color with a strip of trim or a matching solid color at the seam? This was often done during the period to eliminate a ragged hem or to gain length as a young lass grew.

Jeanie,

Thanks for the great idea. I've been contemplating my options for my spider web skirt--it's just a touch too short--adding something smashing at the hem would solve that problem!

Something smashing at the hem...mayhap hammers supended from the hem?
