I did a quick search on the compound, and came up with quite a few repeats of the article you found. I also found this:

If I remember enough of my chemistry and physiology from college, dichloroacetate (DCA) is used by our mitochondria to make ATP, a primary energy unit of our bodies. However, it is also considered a potential hazardous chemical in groundwater and at USEPA Superfund sites if at the concentrations used in toxicology experiments and metabolic treatment (go figure :roll: ).

I'm going to bookmark a few medical websites and see if any more information is posted.
