Well, folks, my ride is tomorrow. One hundred miles dedicated to cleaner air and cures for lung various ailments.
Alas... the original plan has failed, thanks to Mother Nature. She's planning to dump more rain and cold on us tomorrow. Given the rain and cold, a kilt won't be a good idea. I was expecting it to be really nice, but nope.
I know I promised that I'd ride kilted, but my health and comfort is at
stake here. If I'm freezing my tookus off, it would be bad. My apologies.
Now, I have another ride on Sunday. It'll be a 35 miler. If Sunday is nice, I'll do it kilted. If I do end up riding kilted, I will get photos. I'm sure the papperazzi will be taking snaps of a kilted cyclist!!

Okay folks as of 11 am Sir Speedy has been riding for 3 hours and was at the 2nd rest stop which is at the 40 mile point. He was tired, completely soaked through, and his back was screaming but he's having a blast and will check in again at the half way point when he'll stop for lunch.
40 down ... 60 more to go!

Now, now. If I ever get around to getting my Specialized Hard Rock fixed, I'll be hitting the trails. It's everywhere as fun as road riding. Not to mention, it'd make excellant training for my next century.
So did ya mae your time?????

No. At about the 15 mile point, my lower back started hurting like hell. I started having issues with my seat staying angled such that the pain in my back was lessened. I was riding in sweat pants and a sweat shirt, which started getting pretty water logged. My back made climbing hills an excruciating feat. From mile 45 to mile 55, I kept riding through these clouds of black flies. Bottom line... the going was hell. I ended up finishing in 7 hours and 40 minutes, of which 5 hours and 22 minutes were spent in motion. So, basically, I spent 2 hours and 18 minutes off the bike trying to get my back to stop hurting, stretching, and eating.
Now... today I did another 35 miles. At the end of today's ride, I started thinking I should have done the 53 mile ride. Alas, I did the 35 miler, which I finished 55 minutes sooner than I told Sandy that I would. When Sandy dropped me off at the start point, she asked what time to meet me at the end. I said noon, thinking the ride would take 4 hours, after yesterday's hell. Well, they had rest stops every 10 miles today. I set out at 8:05am. At 9, I rolled into the 1st stop where I stayed until 9:10. I rolled into the 2nd stop at 9:50. Stayed there until 10:10. Finished up at 11:05.
I could have gone quicker on the first leg, but I started sight seeing... the houses and scenery were amazing... caught myself at one point doing a blazing fast 8mph! I'm not even sure how I kept my balance at that slow a speed!
Anyway... I'm one of only 22 people who collected over $500. The honor entitles me to a free riding jersey, a gift certificate to a local shop, and a chance to win a new set of wheels (which I'll sell unless they're better than my current wheels) or a brand new bicycle.

Congrats on finishing both days of riding, hope you have dried off and gotten warm again by now! And hope your back is feeling better as well!
Good luck winning the new wheels or the new bike!

Thank you.
Just so everyone knows, I'm contemplating another century ride to benefit the American Diabetes Society. I'm also looking for a ride that benefits Autism in some way.
A man who had a great impact on my life died as a result of complications due to diabetes. He was my debate coach in HS, and helped me to become the person I am today. Hence my interest in the Diabetes ride.
My eldest son has been diagnosed with very mild Ausperger's, which is a form of Autism. That in itself should explain the Autism ride.
