I thought I'd post about my newest thing I made that I am really excited about.

http://snurl.com/2d3q

They are either trivets or wall hangings (they come shipped ready to be either). I can put any design on the tile, but for now I have really cool drawings of garb. These are not decals but baked in to the tile (not kiln fired)

Let me know what you think.

Also can someone tell me which wife of Henry's that is?

Anne?

Hmmm...from the style of the gown it may be Anne of Cleeves. I *think* I have a book with that illustration in. I'll take a peek at home (hard to do from the office).

Henry VIII and Anne of Cleeves....you are correct. These are nice!

Thanks for helping me figure out who this was. I had a 1 in 7 chance of guessing right. And I'm pretty sure I would have guessed incorrectly.

And thanks for the compliment. I've been working with other tile stuff and these have been my favorite so far. I have a coaster set I will be adding soon, one with 8 different women (2 per tile) medieval to renaissance garb and one with men with the same type of images.

Yuppers, that's Anne of Cleves. Neat bio can be found here:

Originally, that was a Holbein portrait, but the image you have there-- like the other two, as well*-- is from a very famous book called "Historic Costume in Pictures," by Braun & Schneider (Dover). It's a collection of German Victorian-era engravings which are useful to the less-than-fanatic costumer as reference. I say that cos the Victorian influence is really obvious in most of the plates, thus rendering them less than perfect for the hardcore recreationist.

And that's prolly a lot more than you really cared about! Sorry. I get compulsive when it's costuming stuff.

* Tile two is from the same plate as Henry and Anne-- it's "Plate 47, 16th Century; England." It's supposed to be Mary Queen of Scots and Lord Darnley (a third figure, the Marchioness of Dorset, who stood between them in the background, has been excised), and the third tile is "Spanish court dress in the Netherlands, from Plate 56, First Third of the 17th Century; Netherlands."

Thanks again. I got this disk free with another image disk. About half of them are Victorian pictures. I wonder if all of them came from this book. I will have to check it out.

I might have to add a few actual Hans paintings to cover the real time period instead of the interpretation years later. Of course I have ideas for at least 30 different things to add. I just need to find the time and money to print them all.

Just send me some scans, and I'll let you know. I have two copies of the book!

And Holbein rocks. Some of his sketches, I have to say, are even more beautiful than his portraits. Honestly. He was an astonishing artist.

Actually I have a link that shows all the images on the cd:

I am sure a quick scan of the images can tell you if it's from your book(s).
