Bummer that you all won't be there. I figure I'll go b/c I *live* in Manhattan and it's just too ridiculously close for me to not go for a couple of hours, at least.

Cloisters was nice; I saw a good number of people from NYRF there, including Robin Hood and his gang who basically performed the exact same fight sequences, the king and queen from Stockwood and some of the performers from the other and smaller faires. The park is a gorgeous setting for the faire and I recommend it as a good faire for going "naked" (regular clothing) if you're like me and sick of being tied up in a bodice for a while and is also a really nice way for any NYC'ers to take a quick getaway from the city.

 The Faire at Fort Tryon was ok, but I would probably not return. I went in garb w/one of my daughters, and there were so few visitors "dressed" that we made quite a stir. The feasting rather sucked - not enough food vendors, too modern, absolutely no "period" type food. The drink was worse. One kind of beer (no ALE), or white/red wine - your basic hog swill. :yuck: There was only one place within the entire large park where victuals and drink were available, near the jousting arena, in a small grassy area toward the Cloisters, at the far end of the park. This was, naturally, very crowded, impossible to find a spot to sit and eat/drink one's swill. We ended up being so hungry that we ate in the small restaurant near the entrance.
The vendors were fairly good, though - lots of great jewels, and some garb not found at Tux, but not in great variety, though there were many booths of interest.
And where was the entertainment? Almost non-existent! There was mainly the joust, which you couldn't get NEAR, and one or two musical performers scattered around at odd intervals. :sigh:
The highlight, (the ONLY highlight) was touring the Cloisters in my queenly garb. That was a dream I had since a young girl when my grandmother took me there to see the Cluny Tapestries, and some of the tomb effigies of our ancestors. Now THAT was worth the bad food, lack of entertainment, and bodice squeezing! :D
So much more could be done with this faire. The grounds are beautiful - perfect, in fact, and the proximity of the Cloisters is icing on the cake.
To be fair (pun  ), I believe that the faire is not a big money-maker, and that public funds from the city/parks department are used to stage it, so there may be a tight budget. Still, it would be nice to see more of the Faire-like trappings....
