Not many of you know, but I was laid off a long-time job at the beginning of October. It was a bit ugly and more than a little scary as I'm the sole support of myself, my two sons, two dogs and a cat. I started working a temp to hire job in mid-November while continuing to send out resumes and interview for jobs - a number of which seemed to disintegrate before my eyes.

My temp job has finally gone permanent and I couldn't be happier. I'm now officially the executive assistant to the president and CEO of a really cool, growing ad agency here in Kansas City. Considering I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in journalism/advertising 24 years ago, it's pretty funny I'm finally at an ad agency. :singdanc:

I have to toot my own horn a bit as I managed to keep my head up and stay positive - trusting there was something much better than I had before out there for me and having faith the universe and the Creator was moving me toward my greater good. I keep learning if I just get out of the way and quit trying to control things, everything happens as it should.

Thanks to all of you for your grace, your intelligence, your humor and your sisterly commraderie - whether you knew/know it or not, you get me through each day.

That's awesome!!! I am happy for you. :singdanc:

It must be a tremendous relief to be permanent now. I remember when I temped, going home every day wondering if my agency had left a message saying the job was over....

Glad that's over with!! :D

Wendy Zski can sympathise with you there - her degree is a bachelor of theater arts. She's absolutely thrilled when she gets something that actually makes use of the degree. Most of the time, she's an admin. assistant.

Here in Aspen, I hear CEO's and people who have too much money brag, and spend lots and lots to impress ..... I don't know who there trying to impress.

But to have financial responsibility, and keep your head above water, doing what you need to do, Then hooking in and makin' it to the flotation device. On your own!

Now YOU are IMPRESSIVE!!!

YOU ROCK!!!

My boss is one cool guy. One of the core beliefs of the firm is politics in this workplace is a no-no. Another is fun breeds creativity - we need to have fun. We have beer in the frig and at 5 p.m. the CEO is the first one to declare Miller time. His hobbies include civil and post-civil war history, gun collecting and shooting and writing poetry. He knows I'm into ren faires and I've told him about the guilds - he thinks he should be a rogue, so come July and his birthday I know what I'm getting him as a gift!
