My husband got me caught in this series. OMG!!! I can't seem to stop reading them. They are about this cheeky little Animator (the kind that raises zombies not cartoons), vampire killer Anita Blake. It is an interesting set I have found those that have loved the series and those that have hated it.

The first book is called Guilty Pleasures there are currently 10 books out there with 11 either out or soon to be. If you like cheeky vampire stuff this is a good read. What do others think if they have read it?

That series ROCKS! I have all of them. Check out her Meridith Gentry series, too. But wait til you're done with Anita. It gets steamy in the fifth (I think) book.

I like the earlier books in the series - there's one - has "Obsession" in the title I think - that's essentially nothing but a f*ck book. Which is OK, if that's what you wnat, but there wasn't the story that I was used to. It gets better again after that one. And yes - the Merry Gentry (so far only 2 of them!) also rocks.

Guilty Pleasures
The Laughing Corpse
Circus of the Damned
The Lunatic Cafe
the Killing Dance
Burnt Offerings
Blue Moon
Obsidian Butterfly
Narcissus in Chains
Cerulean Sins

Which are you talking about? As for being a f*ck book..Hey! It's sex with the undead! (Not to mention the others) How much better is that than regular sex?

Of course, I am a vampire lover. MMMM...Spike! MMMM....Jean-Claude!

Those books are GREAT!!!! I have read both series and she is FANTASTIC!!

If there were an sex books, I think it would be the Meridith Gentry books. They are steamy to say the least but still a truely fine read!

I have an omnibus of the first three books...of course I'm reading three books at once right now :D I loved the first one too...and I think I have the first Meridth book (I saw one of her hardcovers on clearance for $5 and grabbed it).. I need to double check! It took me a while to get used to the first person perspective...I usually prefer third person omniscient. :D But they're great!

I have the Meredith Gentry books, but haven't read them yet (no time, no time!). But I adore the Anita Blake books. What I'd like to know is how the Wenches fall on the Jean-Claude vs. Richard debate?

I'm a Jean-Claude girl all the way (and willing to entertain thoughts of Asher, as well). Richard just leaves me cold.

In the latest book, it is Jean-Claude AND Asher AND the were-lepord.

For Anita, there is no telling where she will end up.

For myself.....For some reason, I really like the Asher character. He is more accessable....

.

Was that scene in the shower with the leopard (what *WAS* his name? I can't remember it) the steamiest thing you ever read, or what? Man, I need to break out the fan just thinking about it. Hoo!

Katie, who obviously doesn't get out much

Ironically it was my husband that introduced me to Anita Blake. :) We got to meet Laurell K. Hamilton at a book signing she was doing locally. She was awesome.

I didn't sleep for a week when I started the serise! I would fall asleep with the book in bed, and hubby would wake up and take it away from me. ROFL

The last book was seriously cool, and I ate it up. I tried the Fae books she's writing and wasn't as interested in them as I was Anita Blake. They were a little too out in left field for me. Okay so sleeping with the undead and werecreatures isn't weird enough, but those didn't grab me nearly as much :)

OMG the shower scene!!! *pants* It's incredibly hot in here. The husband didn't know what hit him at 2 am.

Warning to all those with unsuspecting husband, boyfriends or girlfriends, these books create high levels of urgency in the bed room

I now give them as wedding gifts to all friends getting married, with a card that says, "For a little more voom in the bedroom."

Awesome page for people who are terrible with names, and for help sorting out who's who?

Micah Callahan is the name of the werepanther your thinking of, Katie. :) The Nimir-Raj of the Maneater Clan, and no I didnt' remember the title, I looked it up on that site up top ;)

Dunno.... I still turn to the first time Anita has sex with Jean-Claude to get my fix.

oomph.

And if you've read the Merry Gentry series, I drool all over myself when she finally gets it on with Doyle.

Doyle Rocks but so does Frost. Can't wait for the 3rd book due out in February. You can read the 1st 2 chapters of it online at her website.

I have been an Anita fan from the get go. I use to choose Richard over Jean Claude, but he became to wimpy about what he is and what Anita is. SO I now like the vamps. She has over 500 pages on the next Anita book written and fully expects it to be over 1000 pages when done. I can't wait, but must.

Kae,
waiting impatiently

OK........after wandering all over the message boards.....I now have a list of about 100 books I need to read........give or take a dozen or so......I'm trying to decide here if it's a good thing I don't have a love life.

Considering all the books I want to read.....yes, .....however, per many of your comments regarding some of these books, it sounds like I may be tempted to haul someone in off the sidewalk......

Katie

Richard is a whiny asshole.

I'm all for Jean-Claude....but Asher was always my fav. The scarred beauty, and his personality were intriguing. When she got both, I was freaking jealous.

Not fair.

I read all those books in like, a week. That's how obsessed I was. lol

I was okay with Richard until Blue Moon. Then he got on my nerves. Now he's such a macho asshole I wanna puke. I'd always take Asher over Jean-Claude. I've been surrounded by scarred people my whole life, it doesn't make him any less beautiful, because he cares about people. (More than any other vampire seems to.)

Yes, and even though it sounds cheesy, I will say it...Asher has more soul.

Nah, it's not cheesy at all. Juliana may have been the glue that held the three of them together, but even the Inquisition, couldn't kill his soul. Just wounded it, he had all the soul.

For those who liked the series as it started out - before it turned into fang-porn..

(Not that there is anything wrong with fang-porn, or faerie-porn, - I am rather fond of it myself - but you have to admit the later books don't really have the same feel as the earlier ones)

You might enjoy the Harry Dresden books by Jim Butcher. Harry Dresden is the only Wizard listed in the Chicago phonebook. He is also a PI and on retainer for the Police Dept. You get a lot of the same wise-cracking crime-solving magic-horror feel.

(and it's Micah in the shower - mmmmmmm)

Well... I liked richard until the blue moon book..Then i liked Jean-Claude.. sort of..
I definatly dig Micah.. and i still have a few books to go so....

Although i am starting to miss plot admist all the sex..

For me the books are starting to look like .. opening page... sex with guy A. Next chapter.. sex with guy B.... Next Chapter Guy A, B and other hangers on ... etc etc..
oh look.. GUNS... Sex...

Getting rather mindless... but i like Micah...

Just because for once I want to be the first to post some really great news. Anita Blake's first group of books are being turned into a Graphic Novel. OMG. I am so excited. Its not comming out till June but finally its about time. Hopefully they won't have to cut to many of the sex scenes in the later books. Bwahahaha. MMM shower scene, office scene with Nathaniel.
Wheres my cold water?

Oh and Katie I like JC more then Richard but if I had my true choice I'd grab Micah in a NY second. How hot is it to hear "Whatever you want whatever you need."

MMMM Nathaniel.

I just got my copy of Micah, yesterday, and i'm throughly engrossed. Gawd I love the Anita Characters. I could have done without the whole ardeur arc, and Anita becoming a slut. :)

I've read all the Merry Gentry series and loved it. I need more.
Haven't started the Anita Blake books yet, but plan to soon. I sorta need
something a liitle less bloody first. Sex is fine. Sex and magic even better. Violence I need to take in metered doses.

I'm finishing the undead series by MJD, then I have to read Micah (I bought it but put it aside so I can read the Borrowed books first) then I have Jackie Collin's Lucky series that I bought and need to go through, THEN I can read the Merry Gentry series and re-read the Anita series. My list is growing and I'm just not reading like I need to.

hmmm I think I'd rather have JC, he's sexy, he knows how to dress... well there are just so many reason. Now if I could remove Richard's vocal cords I'd be tempted just for the use of the body, but he is really whiny and an ass hat.

Micah is her new short-story disguised as a novel - and I'd borrow it from some one - don't waste your money on buying it - see the thread on Micah in this list...

Yso Micah is a new boyfriend Don't remember what book it's in but he's now a steady cast member and Laurell recently did a short book just on him. sort of

Ok I love Micah as a character he is my favorite. I will agree with the statement that this book was to short. But I like that Laurell had a individual book for one of the boyfriends. It would be great if she did a short story novel of just each of the different boyfriends. Like a one on one adventure. Kind of like the Green Mile book series. But financially I would apreciate it if this book was not wasted space. Drives me nuts.

Save the Trees Laurell !!! :)

I like Micah, but my favorate character is Nathaniel..or Asher... I wouldn't mind being Anita sandwiched between Asher and Jean-Claude.. or even Nathaniel and Damian... They are all so yummy its so hard to choose.

I think I am drawn to nathaniel b.c seriously a guy with violet eyes and long auburn hair.. thats too hot. Plus he is submissive some.. but getting more aggressive and that is just a turnon when a submissive switches roles on you.;-)
