We had some really nasty windstorms in the Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky area. OHRF suffered quite a bit of damage and was shut down early. 90% of the Cincinnati area is without power, including us.

Is everyone ok?

Oh noez! Everyone ok? I lost power for a few hours yesterday, but ordered in pizza and drank beer and all was well. I can't believe ORF closed early! Not surprised about the damage though. Some of those booths just needed a big bad wolf to come along to blow them down.

I never lost power, but I did have a large limb tapping at my bedroom window. Since the tree it came from is around the corner and in back of the house it was a bit of a surprise. My son and I went out to remove it and he got there just as a gust grabbed it. They both started to drift in the wind, I managed to catch hold before they went too far. My son is only 14 and was happy to finially be big enough to help with physical labor, but the limb had was acting lika big sail and his weight was not enough to couteract it.
I also managed to not laugh at the look on my son's face until after we had subdued the limb.*rotfl*
We also had to pull several smaller limbs out of my pond, the poor Koi are in hiding.
after all that excitement wasover the rest of the evening was kinda dull.

Seems like nothing hit where we live but all around us, maybe it's because our tree cover is so dense it kept out some of the wind but all we got was a bunch of maybe 1' long sticks and a ton of leaves blowing about. However a few seconds down the road it looked pretty bad. The electricity didn't even go out here. Hit bad in Louisville though from what I've heard.

We're fine, except for having no power to traffic lights in some areas. I'm lucky - some of the ladies in my classes don't have any power, or any water, until Saturday. I don't know what the city expects them to do, but there it is.

Check you roof thoroughly for leaks caused by wind/falling tree limb damage. You don't want it to catch you later.

I'm glad everyone's OK.

Cheers,

O

No kidding. Had my bedroom ceiling fall in on me and my bed one morning about a year after some horrid winds came blowing through our area.

Yeah, it was the weekend from hell...

I survived.
Derek and my parents got power back last night.
Work was closed yesterday to no power. We are still operating on generators.
I was at Dereks when the storm hit. Knocked a big branch off the tree in his front yard. That branch was big enough it constituted 1/3 of the tree. Luckily it didn't hit anyone or anything. It just blocked the neighbors driveway for a few hours. My parents lost their above ground pool. The wind caught it and bent it over itself, bending the poles that held it to the ground. No roof damage to either house luckily.

As of 6:10AM today we still had no power. We're going to have to file an insurance claim for roof damage and damage to some other things outside. All of our food in our refrigerators has spoiled. No ice available in the area to put it in coolers, so it's rotten. If the power isn't on by now, we'll have to consider everything in our deep freeze a loss as well.
Sat in line to fill up my gas tank for 1/2 hour this morning so that I could get to work.

I realize this is nothing compared to what people that felt the full wrath of Ike are dealing with. But who would have dreamed that we would have hurricane force winds in Ohio?!? And many of our power company's energy teams were sent down to the Carolinas and to Texas.

Glad to hear everyone is ok!

When I lived in Milwaukee, we were given about 2 hours notice for a severe wind shear event. Because of an incoming cold front and the conditions near the lake, it was creating 100+ mph winds that were usually associated with tornados, but without the circular movement. The outer suburbs were severely damaged, but as it moved through the city, the wind and the damage decreased.

It's been a strange weather year. Should I send a prayer or sacrifice to Chaac next week? :earth:

Checking in.
My place got power back around 4 or 5 yesterday afternoon. There's some missing shingles on the roof of the apartment building, but no other real damage. Got our internet back about 5 minutes ago. The Springboro area, part of Miamisburg, and Clearcreek twp are still without power, the city shut off the water today. (My mother made a joke about having to teach people in Ohio how to have a hurricane...the drink and the storm.)
The guys at work told me that two of our display sheds decided to relocate. One into the wall of the Holiday Inn next door, and the other decided to fly into 741 and into a car .

Please all of you recover carefully, and check you insurance policies to make sure you are covered for wind damages

Just got into work a little bit ago. We are still running on generator power. I don't think Mason, OH has power back yet.

Our power came back on at Midnight. Of course, I had already showered last evening in the freezing water! So I'm looking forward to a hot shower, or maybe a shower and a bath! Spent last evening before it got dark making a list of everything in our refrigerators and then tossing it all out. Tonight we hit the deep freeze.
We've taken pictures of everything, and we hope to hear from an insurance adjuster within the day.
A LOT of school are closed for the third day around here. And with only 5 calamity days built into the school year, they are going to be hurting when the snow starts falling.

I'm in Dayton Ohio, 2 days from my wedding and we just got our power back on.... it's made sewing the wedding dress interesting. :-D We lost a portion of our roof and power for 3 and a half days but as of now the only place that might not be ok is the hair saloon and we have a back up for that. This is one to tell the children about someday. I took pictures and posted then on my flickr at http://flickr.com/photos/jayene/

After all of this we are definitely playing "It's the End of the World as we know it" at the reception.
