I read a short story a number of years ago and I remember the plot well enough but I can't remember what it was called or who wrote it. :?
Here's the story:
A woman borrows a jeweled necklace from a friend to wear to a party. She loses the necklace. She goes to a pawn shop and sells practically everything she owns to get another one to replace it. She returns the new necklace to her friend and then proceeds to live a miserable life of poverty. She runs into the friend years later who does not recognize her right away as life has been very tough for this woman. She admits finally that she had to give up everything she owned in order to to replace the necklace. Her friend then informs her that it was fake.
Okay ladies--any ideas?
THANKS!
