View Full Version : Long days get here already!!
I am suffering from major indoor burn-out. :augh:
I cannot motivate myself to do a damn thing when I get home...even working out has been a chore, when i used to just come home and hop to it on auto-pilot. The thought of spending my late afternoon/evenings watching the boob tube or doing *anything* indoors drives me bonkers. :vent:
Trying to save money, so going out to the stores is a bad idea.
Uck...I HATE winter!!!! I want it to be light out until nearly 9pm again, so I can stay outdoors, biking, walking....heck even just sitting out on the lawn with my dog would be soooo nice.
Anyone else just SICK of it? :blech:
I've been feeling depressive for months now... *sigh* I haven't actually done any really quality sewing for a while, and the only time I seem to spend outside anymore is when I'm shoveling the walks. If I had a fireplace, that might help, but... *sigh*
Yeah, I'm with ya hon. Gimme spring.

I'm with ya, hon... today was the first semi-beautiful and semi-warm day in eons.
Today, though, reality hit me...
in Spring, I'm inundated with crickets that come into my house (supposedly good luck, but EXTREMELY annoying when you hear the chirping INSIDE all day long... and all NIGHT long!!!) that my landlord doesn't seem to be concerned about...
during the rainy season (April-May), I have woken up with earthworms all over my living room floor (thank goodness it's asphalt tile, but it is a literal nightmare). They crawl under my door, because if it rains much here, the ground is saturated quickly and they surface. I've tried thicker door thresholds, everything... to no avail. I will NOT relive the morning last Spring when I woke up and had to sweep up two dustpans FULL of the critters and throw them out.
Spiders EVERYWHERE inside. Slugs on my porch. Yes, I live in an extremely wet area near a river. :(
As much as I hate the cold, it's a nice vacation from the creepy crawlies!!! Anyway, a nice day in the sun would sooooooo be worth it.
XOXOXOXOX
Allie
It will finally get into the 50's here Wednesday, but OF COURSE...it will also rain!! :x
As for the bugs, yep...I do not look foward to that part of it, but I am willing to deal for my sanity.
Allie....I think I would FREAK if I had to see worms all over my floors...sorry hon. Nothing blocks them from under the door? I can't believe that. There *has* to be something that will do the trick.....
And Cyd....I *have* a fireplace, but it's just not even worth lighting....I'm still inside!! lol
Hugs to you both and hang in there.

Oh come on.
On Monday it snowed so hard the power went out and stayed out for 8 hours. Then on Tuesday it came back on and went out again around 11:30 am, and it came back on at 2:30... am, the next day (Wednesday). It kept snowing, and the power went out AGAIN at about 4:30pm. I looked at Andy, said 'pack a bag', and I got us the hell off this mountain. Thursday, all day, it snowed and power was out. The power came on, and the snow stopped, sometime Friday morning very early.
Saturday was snowy. Sunday was snowy. Today was clear but guess what they've told us will happen tonight? You got it. Snow.
Time for a boat drink party. ;)

Well, actually, I have used a rubber non-slip bath mat wedged under the door. It works pretty well... it just makes the door EXTREMELY hard to open and shut, and doesn't keep them out 100%. My dad put weatherstripping of different materials and a higher threshhold in attempts to keep them from getting in. It doesn't work so well. His suggestion is to use Diazon around my door so that they will burn chemically when they enter... as crazy as it sounds, I'm not for that because it's a pretty harsh way of getting rid of them. Also, Diazon will not be available as strong as it was last year (or sold under that name, my dad tells me) because of federal pollution guidelines, which is good.
Since it's rainy and very shady around my apartment entrance, I am limited in natural alternatives. I wanted to plant marigolds because they avert some of the "creepy crawlies" without killing them, but they won't grow in that degree of shade. This will be the first year that I'm going to try planting some impatiens (which are a shade flower) to see how they'll grow. Maybe they'll help avert them too...
If any of you have any ideas (preferably organic ones that won't harm animals or the environment) for averting spiders, worms, slugs, etc... I'd be so grateful. Keep in mind that I have a pup, so they have to be safe for her, too.
BTW, I have the "ultrasonic pest repellers" that are supposed to keep spiders, etc. away by plugging them in the wall... needless to say, I was taken, and they don't work at all. Hop on one foot three times, and you'll get rid of more than you would with THOSE!!! ;)
XOXOXOXOX

Spring would be so nice right now.... I'm really tired of this crazy Iowa weather. Last week, it got up almost to 70 on friday...and yesterday it snowed. Grrr....And I thought Colorado was bad..Having nice weather makes it so much nicer to walk to class, too!

OT: Since I am contemplating a move to CO...I have to ask...what part did you live in? I'm looking at central to southwest areas, which I think are pretty temperate most of the time...
On topic...I came up with the perfect phrase/term to describe what I am feeling....I am in a pre-season stall.
Theresa...sorry about the snow hon, but that's what ya get for living on a mountain. :pfft:

I'm one of those sufferers of seasonal affected disorder I think. Strangely enough, I prefered my decade of winters in Minneapolis to my 23 winters of Kansas City weather. At least in Minnesota if it wasn't snowing or raining, it was generally sunny. Here in KC we get a LOT of hazy or downright cloudy, dreary days. Sunday and Monday were sunny here and I was in a good mood. Today it's foggy/dreary and now we're getting a misty, drizzly precurser to either snow or freezing rain (I hate that shit!!!!!).
I'm tellin ya Tink - I'm thinkin' we're twin daughters of different mothers. I can't muster enthusiasm for anything right now - I'm semi-comatose by the time I get home from work. There's plenty to do from housework to fun stuff, and the yoga/pilates videotape I bought nearly two weeks ago hasn't even had the cellophane seal broken on it yet! (sigh)
I want some sunny, warm days!!!!!! Whaaaaaaaa :tantrum:

Twins is what I *always* say we seem to be....
I hear ya...I haven't worked out since Saturday and what is normally 70 minutes on the treadmill ended up being only 12....I just could not muster the desire....I at least did my weights and some of my pilates, but since then NOTHING. I feel like a sloth!!!
I gotta get back into the swing of it. I haven't slacked off like this in at least 6 months. I just feel...to quote Alicia Silverstone in Clueless "Completely wretched" (and I *didn't* eat a handfull of popcorn and 2 Twizzlers... )
I do think the weather here is taking an upward turn...no weather below 40 predicted for the next 5 days...although rain tomorrow and possible snow Thursday.....I am hoping that it gets up into the 50's soon, so I can do some outdoor walking or biking. I think I have hit treadmill burnout finally after nearly 6 months of sticking to it. I need a new machine...wish I had an excercise bike.....I'm going to look into joining that Curves place the gals on the Reduction Time thread have been praising.....will keep me from hiding in the house every night and will give me a whole new routine to kill my boredom with my current one.

Okay, we're talking a lot about how depressing the weather is, which just gets us more down, so let's talk about what we can do to change the attitude until Spring actually shows up! :p
When I get stuck in snow and the entire world is gray, here are some of the things I do to break away from it:
1) Put on some music, crank it up, and dance around the house with Andy and WISH someone was there to see me so crazy.
2) Bake bread. I'm serious. Something about the smell of baking bread, and seeing there's enough heat in the air to get that yeast rising, just kind of mentally changes me. Plus I read somewhere that the smell of bread baking releases a checmical reaction that livens your mood...?
3) I open the liquor cabinet and I make myself a summery cocktail. A margarita, or something fruity with rum, not a lot, not to get drunk or even buzzed... but the taste reminds me of summer and time by the pool or on the beach.
4) I cook something light or different. It's so easy to do the comfort foods this time of year - meat and potatoes, or macaroni and cheese, meatloaf, whatever. Instead I bust out the salad greens, mix in some fresh veggies and peppers. Or I'll make shishkabobs, make sure there's pineapple and citrus on them with the meat and onions and tiny peppers. Again, something summery that reminds me that Winter won't be here forever.
5) I find a sunny spot and just sit there for 5 minutes with my eyes closed 'soaking up the day'.
There's more... in snow country you tend to come up with stuff to trick your brain... but hopefully others will have suggestions for pushing beyond the gray and into thoughts of Spring and early Summer. :)

*braces for the influx of punches she will surely receive...*
It was 55 here today. 8)8)8)8)8)8)
I officially got high ON the sun. I was a mad woman, drunk on its rays!!!
SUN! SUN! SUN!!! :cheer:
(yes... it touched me in the head... just a wee bit... but can you blame me?!? ;)
Ah, but it is not to last. Of course. :pfft:
Does anyone know of a cruise line that would offer an EXCELLENT group rate to Wenches? We're talking... um... something like $3.27 right now, including airfare. ;)
*turning up Sir Bob Marley... ahhhhhhhhhhh* :singdanc:

I'm sure I'll get more. It was like 85 degrees here yesterday. I just love West Texas hot and dry. We only have 2 seasons here. Summer (about 8 months) and winter (about 4)
I am definatly tired of all the cold here. last week it was 16 degrees 5 out of the seven days. Anywho if i could bottle the sunshine I would send some to you guys who are felling the winter blahs.

Hey Tink:
My stepmom joined Curves a while back and she told me at Christmas that in the first month she lost 15 lbs. without changing her diet and doing the Curves workout three days a week. I'm getting ready to call 'em myself - 15 lbs. would be a drop in the bucket, but heck, it would be a start!!!
Hmmmm - a wench's cruise ... could the cabana boys deal?
Theresa...problem with baking the bread is that I'd then EAT it....Bad enough last night I was suddenly overcome with wanting a HUGE bowl of angel hair spaghetti with butter......Happens everytime I watch the Godfather Part II and they show the flashback scene with Vito as a young married man and his wife is cooking pasta for him and his co-horts....
(I am Godfather addicted...watch it every time it's on and AMC has been running I and II every other day for the past week...)
Allie and Mel..... :pfft:
Baroness.....On my ship, the PMS Scallyrag....we have cabin boys....one is named Connor Lingus.....LOL

Tink, I've found a high-protein, low carb spaghetti called Due Amici Pasta Light at my local health-natural food/vitamin store. I LOVE my pasta, and it's so hard to give up. There are lots of brands out there... they're worth a try. The taste is very much the same to me. My particular brand has 80% less carbs than regular pasta, 80% more protein than regular pasta, 70% more dietary fiber than regular pasta (which makes you feel fuller faster), and 20% fewer calories than regular pasta. It's my comfort food that doesn't make me feel sedentary!!! :D

LOL!!! Did you see the SNL sketch on the night where Christopher Walken was on with him playing "Colonel Angus" from the CSA/Civil War?
:rotfl: (later in the sketch, it is revealed that the Colonel's first name is Anal. :D ) Tina Fey wrote it, and on Conan one night, she supposedly barely scraped by the censors... NBC got no complaints about it, and one compliment!
If you didn't catch it the first time, wait for the re-run this season. It's worth it!

I was watching 'Godfather' last night on AMC and I got this look like, "Ummmm.... WHAT are you watching?" So I switched to the Salem Witch Trials. :p
Anyway. Tink, you're talking to a woman who bakes like there's no tomorrow. If you would like some low-fat healthy recipes that don't taste like sandpaper, I'm your girl. And of course, if you'd like my cheesecake recipe... the one where you gain 10 pounds just by looking at the finished product... you can have that too.
Alas, I am not much of a baker....cook, etc. I'm a ready to eat kinda girl....hence why the majority of what I eat is cereal and balance bars and sushi with the occasional pizza or quesadilla (sp?) thrown in....
(Blame my mom for this....she cooked 5 things my whole growing up years....meatloaf, spaghetti, london broil, pork chops and fish filets and she stopped cooking those when I reached High School. Then add in my dad for more blame because I am a picky/non experimental eater....just like him....My whole family is still amazed that i eat sushi... )
However, I will glady accept recipes which I can use for holidays. So I can bring some nice home-made stuff to the relatives....so fire away!!!
Got any good apple pie recipes....I do enjoy making apple pie, when the mood takes me.
