So I finally finished this quilt that's been making me crazy. Utterly insane. It's made of the old t-shirts of a former champion gymnast-- one's even signed by Shannon Miller.
But I needed something to hold the front, batting, and back together. I could have just stitched through it, but I wanted something cooler than that. I've never used the button-making kit, but I thought I'd give it a try: she had a pair of plaid workout shorts that were perfect.
I have to say, those things ROCK. Incredibly simple to use, and they look GREAT. I'm going to have to start buying them in bulk. Why didn't I ever try this before? I had a dozen perfect plaid buttons, and the quilt looked fabulous. WOOT!

At the moment, I only have a rough of the layout. But the woman for whom I made it-- the gymnast's mother-- promised she'd take some. When I do get them, I'm going to put them on my website, I promise!
It was sort of accidental: I don't usually make things, if that makes any sense. I do corsets and gowns and doublets and such. At least now, though, I know I CAN make something like this.
My only regret, though, is that I didn't sign it. Damn.

Ohh...always try to sign and date a quilt....for history. A hundred years from now someone is going to say, "I wonder who made this glorious quilt?" and they will hunt for clues...maybe they will figure it out, but more than likely they won't. Make a label and send it to the woman or if you ever see her sign it with a quilt pen....and date it.
I started a quilt group 18 months ago that meets here every four weeks. It is great fun. We make some wild and crazy things. lol
I can't wait for the pictures.

Sigh.
Grumble, grumble.
I know, I know. I didn't even know they made quilt pens! What are they like?
Still grumbling....

They are permanent ink pens. The ones I've used come in packages of 6 different colors. They have all sorts of colors to match your quilt.
There are also books of quilt labels you can fill out and then iron onto fabric to sew on the back of the quilt.
I have often thought of using the pens to draw things on some of my "creations" instead of doing embroidery. I haven't done it yet, but it has been tempting.

Gelly Roll pens work great for signing fabric, specifically Pigma Micron by Sakura.
