Woweee! Mine {Dr. Who Scarf} is only about 18 INCHES long so far, but lots of colors, all the ones in the visible spectrum, in fact, and white and black. I'd love to learn some crochet stitches, I bet it would make the production go faster than knit a row, purl a row.
I'm going to cross-post this to the Texas board and see if I can find a teacher.
I'm inspired! Again! That's dangerous. I already have about 10 projects-in-the-works right now.
Any Local 13 Wenches Crochet? If so, I'd love to pick your brains!
Crochet - EASY, can do it in my sleep... knit - not a chance in heaven or on earth I'll ever get that one down! *g*
Yeah, no problem, I can teach you to crochet.

I also crochet. However I am still learning the stiches. I have a blanket that I like making that only uses 3 different stiches. The first one took me over 3 months to make. The second only took 3 weeks. The 4th was similar stiches and two strands. . . it took 4 weeks. The fifth also took 4 weeks but I used multiple colors. The one I am working on now is going really fast when I have time to work on it.
I am half tempted to bring it out to Scarb. (even though it isn't period) and sit and work on it while I am out there. I am kind of a dork like that. In fact last weekend I was working on it while at the Gin Blossoms concert and the Mystery Tour concert.
I taught myself the various stitches (books or online) and then used HUGS as my test area - that way I could use really cheap ugly craft yarn and it wouldn't be a complete waste of time! *g*

People have attempted to teach me crochet in the past, the problem I encounter is that they are righties and I am VERY lefty. So I reverse what they're doing, and they get all mad, because they think I'm trying to be difficult. I'm just wired differently, that's all.
My grandmother always tried to teach me, but she loss patience easily, so all I ever learned was afghan stitch. A beautiful stitch, but BORING! Put them all on the hook, take them all off the hook. Utterly fascinating, NOT.
Anyway, the difficulty is the same with books. I've wanted to learn crochet on the double, but I don't see that working any better for a lefty. :(
Oh well. I'll learn one of these days, I know I will. I want to learn too much not to.
Cheers
darlin', we will find a way. I'm definitely a righty, but I'm sure between the two of us, we can get it.

I have some books on on the double crochet. I have even tried just the basic stich. It should be easy to convert to lefty. My Dad is a lefty so I kinda understand.

I think I can help you, too. I can crochet and, although I usually do it right-handed, I do most other activities left-handed. Being wired differently wouldn't be a problem. Anything I can do to help. And, yes, it IS faster than knit a row, purl a row. Oh yes, I just adore Dr. Who scarves. I made one once that was about seven feet long. Unfortunately I lost it at a fantasy con in Dallas. Boohoo.

my friend (righty) taught me to crochet, and I'm a lefty. what I did was sit in front of her so it was like looking in a mirror. She crocheted slowly and I watched and then copied!!

Ok I have to tell you all about my weekend.
Went to a family reunion. . . Both parents, Sister, 15 mo old nephew, 2 small dogs and me in one mini van driving over 300 miles to the reunion on Friday, visiting some family on Sat. the reunion itself on Sun and driving back after the reunion on Sunday.
During this event I was able to complete a blanket that is almost as tall as me and wide enough for two. We even had to stop at two Wal-Marts so I could get more yarn. I guess I had plenty of "free time"
Of course it was nice getting to sit back and work on the blanket. Most of the family talking around me so I was aware of everyone elses life and I didn't have a bunch of people asking me why I am 30 and single . . .

That is fabulous! It made me laugh to think about you saying "Wait, we have to stop again for more yarn." :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: You're a wench after my own heart!
