My father just got through knee-replacement surgery about an hour ago and he's currently waiting to come up out of anesthesia.
I thought I was cool with this, but I burst in to tears when they told me it was over and he came out okay, so I'm a lot more concerned than I thought I was.
If you could pray, burn incense, do your thing and send good thoughts and wishes my Dad's way for a speedy recovery, it would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and if we have any reiki-wenches out there, he is a BIG fan of reiki healing. Any of that you can send would leave me eternally in your debt. I will be sending him some of my own.
Thanks guys...

I know I'm not in your local hon, but I'm right there with you. my mom had her right knee replaced this past July. just remember, he'll have no pain in that knee now, not like he used to have. make sure he does what the doctor says, goes to his therapy as prescribed, doesn't push himself more than he should and everything will heal up nicely. It'll take a year for the swelling to go down and some of the aches to vanish. Mom's still got a sore spot on her knee, just below the kneecap.
*HUG* lots of good vibes headed your way and to your dad as well.

Thank you...I appreciate it...
And yes, I am very happy that he will no longer be in pain. He used to go through advil the way some people go through mint MnMs. He was ALWAYS in pain, and he was walking funny just to keep it from hurting.
It's the same knee that they stripped cancerous moles from a few years back, when they discovered it had gotten in to his lymph system. So...I'm also relieved because the chances of any cancerous cells remaining hidden in the bone is now also gone. :)

Thoughts and prayers are with you and your dad. My MIL had both knees replaced a couple of years ago but before then she was in a lot of pain and couldn't take stairs without much difficulty.

I went to see him last night and he looks fantastic. (Well, as fantastic as someone who's had their knee chopped out of 'em and replaced can be.)
He was refusing a morphine drip because, well, he's stubborn and insist it doesn't "hurt that much."
Which means the average human being would probably be crying right now. But he's used to living with debilitating pain, so he doesn't really have an accurate gauge for that anymore.
He was a little nauseas (sp?) from the iron pill, so we talked him in to taking an anti-nausea shot and it worked immediately.
I took him some books of lawyer jokes and some other stuff to make him laugh, since he's going to be damned bored (has to be there at least 4 days)
But all in all...he looks much better than most people in the hospital tend to. I am quite relieved. :)

:aok: What great news to start the morning with! So happy for you!
Question: Does he like mental games? Like crosswords, word-finds, stuff like that? I know those books helped keep me sane while confined. More active than regular books (altho I loved those, too) and easily put down when he has visitors.
Just a thought....

@ Phoenix~Well...he's not big in to crosswords. But he does love to read. So I may just keep bringing him books in the meantime. I'd thought about getting him some of those last night when I was in the bookstore, but I have never in my life see him do one. So I figured that might be a bad idea.
I might buy him some mad libs or something.
@ Bri- Thank you ever so much dear...no, I haven't had a chance to check Mysse out Things, ironically, are too stressful for me to get clear and do it! But I will look in to it today.
And thank you to everybody who sent a kind thought my father's direction over this...it all helps. :)

chances are he's really not in any pain at all ~L~ Mom wasn't. What was hurting before simply isn't there to hurt and the 'pain' she had was aches from the bones being ground on, hammered, pushed and wrenched, then her muscles being moved around. She said it wasn't pain, just like a nagging toothache. Me? I'm a wuss, drug me and knock me out ~LOL~
Glad to hear Daddy's doing OK!

Oh that's GREAT news! I'm glad to hear he's coming along so well. Both my mom and my MIL had prosthetic surgery in the past and they both don't know how they went without it.
