View Full Version : 2005 Bristol Season

The 2005 Faire season at Bristol is weekends beginning July 9 with the bonus final day of Labor Day, September 5.
I again urge everyone to check in every Faire day at the hostel (which is Griffin Candles - go past the giant pub, turn left at trees, 2nd shop on the right). There you can find out who else in on site, find out about planned activities, and find someone to walk about with. All announcements will be available there.
We try to meet at least twice each day. We gather at Griffin Candles around 12:15 to cheer at the parade and we have been mustering for Wench Walks starting at 1:30 (for instructions and lining up) and stepping off at 2:00. Those would be the best times to meet as many wenches as possible and plan for other activities (going to a show), etc.

It's always a party at Bristol!
But if you'd like to help plan for a weekend here, we glad to have suggestions! There are usually dinner plans for smaller groups, plus there's talk of having a campsite at a nearby park for a couple of weekends. I'm also hoping to have a couple of trips up to Milwaukee to storm the Safehouse (www.safe-house.com). They take very limited reservations, so we'll have to plan ahead and make sure we get there on time, but it's a FABULOUS place if you've never been there (or if you have).

Are you sure you want to bring him back to Bristol wearing tights and a codpiece? Do you really think you'll have enough left of him to take home? :P Of course, we can't do too much damage to his outfit at Faire, 'cause they'd kick us out, but I suppose there's the trip to Safe House and the Pizza Party! Well, Bristol is a little over a month away, and I am SO looking forward to this year. I understand there are some new acts, new vendors, and new buildings. Would anyone happen to know anything about the new additions? I believe that we will be going the weekend on July 16th, and I'm curious what other wenches might be there so that I can put faces to names and meet some of the wonderful women and men I've read so much by and about on the forums.

Pulled from the Bristol website:
Dirk and Guido: The Swordsmen!
Christoph The Insulter
Minstrels of Mayhem
MooNiE and Broon
will all be back this season! Yea!
For guest musicians, we have: Owain Phyfe (July 9, 10, 23, 24); Bard O'Neill (July 30, 31, Aug. 6, 7, 13, 14); and Pint & Dale (Aug. 20, 21, 27, 28, Sept. 3, 4, 5)! Yea!
Unfortunately, based on Wendy's post, Minstrosity won't be at Bristol this season. Wah!
There are 10 new merchants this season! Yea! I don't have a list (but might be able to put one together as I'll be onsite this weekend), nor do I know which buildings are being renovated or built (there's always a few).
As always, check in at the Local Hostel (Griffin Candles - go to the top of the hill, turn left, 2nd shop on the right) and let us know you are visiting! Look through the Local 34 posts for details on the hostel and our activities.

Unfortunately, Bounding Main will not be back at Bristol this year.
In fact, there are a number of musical acts that are not able to return this year, but I don't know which ones. The end-of-the-day Minstrels' Revel has been eliminated due to too few musicians, but it has been replaced with a super-cool all-cast blowout event that will happen at the Cheshire Chase Action Theatre stage (I hope I'm not violating my contract by sharing that, but I don't recall being told that it's a secret, so hopefully I'm OK). So far, we haven't been made privy to the details, but we'll receive our musical assignments and blocking soon, and the rumor is that it will KICK A**! Just something new and different to look forward to!

I ran into Josie from Minstrosity and they will not be at Bristol this season either. It will be sad that there will not be so many musicians there and that revel has been cancelled.
I wonder if they will fill in the difference with the street buskers, individuals and pairs rather than stage acts. This could make Wench Walks even more difficult as there will be even less available locations where we won't interupt other shoes. Note to self - ask during management meeting.
They have 3 guest music groups for different weekends of the season, too.
The new closing act should be interesting! I might have to watch a rehersal when I'm there helping out!

There will be plenty of Local wenches at Bristol opening weekend, but I think you're the first known visitor of the season!
If you haven't gotten them already, there are usually some coupons on the main Bristol website for 50% off tickets for opening weekend. If not, send me a PM and we can find other discount arrangements.
I'll be near the Hostel, but am always looking for Guild pins, so hopefully we'll spot each other. See you soon!

*chuckles* I've seen him in tights and the codpiece, I don't know who's it was but someone's in that cast had a squeeky codpiece. (I so blame Roberts work for missing the adult show...grr.) But I would say he would rank up there in the handsome if not dashing catagory.
I have some new garb for this year, along with some new acessories :) I have a hat finally, (which amusingly enough the third member of my household got a similar hat just green with the same pin, I found it amusing.)
I should be showing up (for those who don't know yet) on the second weekend sunday. Due to SCA and marriage (not mine.) I will certianlly tell Robert about your returns, Erick and Tink, I am sure he will leap at the chance to see you guys agian. :D

There are lots and lots of changes this year (both to cast and to the physical structures at the site). I haven't scoped everything out yet, but will check out the new shows and give a must see list in the next couple of weeks.
Current suggestions: The combined Moonie and Broon show; and the closing act (all cast and musicians).
And yes, we are planning at least 2 trips up to the Safe House (http://www.safe-house.com) this season. So far, it's 3rd weekend and 9th weekend, but we might try to fit in another trip in the middle. I'm going to start a new thread (in the Local 34 forum) for those trips.

The problem so far isn't rogues sweetie.... but some guys that hang out with the wenches and rogues. Ones that have annoyed all the wenches in their area and the wenches are too happy to let them bother others for a short period of time. No offense taken from previous crazies, I understand why the guy was happily unloaded. And I'm too polite sometimes. I must get over that problem.

Don't be afraid to say "No". And if your repeated point is not taken, you can always have security alerted for harassment and get him removed from the site. Enough times doing that, he might get banned, and then he won't be bothering anyone for a while.

That's the problem, it's not a problem with harassment, just general talking and being rather a bit more than acceptable craziness. No touchy touchy, but talking about whatever pops into their pre-medicated (not good meds either) little minds or psychoanalyzing everything. Guy down at GARF... wouldn't stop talking about his shrink! I just grew up with the wonderful ability to listen to a conversation, give the proper "uh-huhs" at the right time, while really closing the shutters. Nice talent for dull conversations, but for making some people think I really care. Tinkerwench's stepdad likes to talk, I listened to him for probably a hour. Tinker said she was sorry after, but I told her I didn't mind. Sometimes people like to get things off their chest, or talk for the hell of it because they're out of the house. :D

That's a warning for anyone who meets my Step dad! Don't try to be polite - he doesn't notice if you listen or not. I fell asleep in the van once and he never noticed, I woke up and he was still talking.
As for Miss Trina - she is too nice sometimes - I am now going to be on the lookout - it happened at Border Raids as well as GARF for I know what to look for now!
Dweeb magnet is the only thing I can say.
