Now Georgia Republicans are flexing their muscles in preparation for exercising more control over the reproductive lives of Georgia women. A bill has been introduced that would protect pharmacists who refuse to fill prescriptions for emergency contraceptive drugs. Some druggists who have strong anti-abortion sentiments are refusing to fill doctors prescriptions for the "morning after" pill. In so doing they place themselves and their moral principals between the doctors and their patients. Republican freshman Senator Jim Whitehead has introduced a bill that would prevent an employer from firing or disciplining a pharmacist who refuses to fill these prescriptions. That happened to an Eckerd pharmacist last year in Texas.
Did you know that in some cases these "I don't care what your doctor says, you're not getting this drug" pharmacists refuse to hand the prescription back to the customer. That way they prevent the customer from going somewhere else to get it filled. No word yet as to how Jim Whitehead, the self-appointed keeper of the womb is handling this one.
