I am trying to join the wenches guild. I am unsure of everything I'm getting into but I hope there are women who will help me along. Any and all information and advice is welcome. Please feel free to send me your best.
Yours,
Suzanne

Hey Suzanne!
Told you I'd find you over here! :D
OK, on being a Wench. Wenches come in any shape and size. Any age and haircolor. Any marital status - or non marital status as the case may be. Any race, color, creed, social status. We are opinionated and caring. We are stubborn and we are flexable. We agree, we disagree. We are women.
At Faire, the IWG will do things like hold 'Wench Walks', where a group of us will wander around the Faire site looking for men we choose to mark with lip prints (it's a bit more involved than that, if you want a detailed description, mail me), we do Drench A Wench, we hang out at the pub. Does membership in the IWG mean that you instantly have a bunch of new best friends? Nope. However, it gives you a nice place to start to build those friendships. Is your Local there to entertain you? Nope. However, through your Local, events can be planned during Faire season or in the 'off-season' that are fun, amusing and rewarding. As an IWG member, do you have to spend your time gawking at men and being loud and bawdy? Nope. If you want to do that, fine. If you do not want to do that, fine as well.
Like most 'social clubs', the IWG is what you put into it. You can buy the membership and only put your pin on once a year or you can get involved in your Local, organize plans, projects and parties.
I hope I am getting closer to helping you find out what it means to be in the IWG :D
Susie (and all that other stuff down below there...)

Hi, Susie!
Thank you for helping me. I did the online membership today and I'm looking at all the faires coming up. I'm hoping to attend something early this spring. Any suggestions?

WOOT!! You are a Wench! Huzzah!!
OK, depending on where you are located or how far you wish to travel... Mayfaire is coming up http://www.mayfaireren.com/ One of our sister Wenches, Bronwyn, is very active in that faire. There is also the annual trip to Frankenmuth (dubed Frankenfest). It's not a faire, but just a day to dress up in garb, have dinner and some fun - That's happening on April 2nd.
Those are the earliest two things I know about going on in MI.....
Now, head back over to the MIRF-IWG group and resubmit your request for joining, so I can approve it. :D
ps: The boards are kind of quiet on the weekends - even Wenches need to attend to real life sometime  However, I am sure more people will pop in here too, to give their few pence on what it means to be a Wench...

Hey Suzanne. If you live in S. IN (or anyplace nearby), give me a line. There aren't that many S. IN wenches.

Sorry, I do not live near you, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't love to come visit sometime! I live in rural MIchigan. If you hold up your right hand, palm facing you, I'm right about in the middle of the mitten. I hope there's someone nearby. I'm so looking forward to meeting the wenches!

Trenka, that's a great idea! Less than 2 hours for me and I bet we'd give Motown something to talk about...isn't that some kind of song lyric? :tunes: I've actually been searching sites for garb and tomorrow I plan to look at fabrics and patterns...I thought this would be so cool. I'm excited about being a wench! :D

That'd be cool. Fact is my buddy lives around the corner from his local bar! Talked to him the other night, where was he? Calling from the bar, complaining about paying to play pool when he could do it for free the next night. And he wasn't drunk yet, and is there about every day. Talk about being Norm!
I like being a wench, course before I became an offical wench I was called something a bit different, I think it was similar to witch, with a letter switched out.

How dare they call you anything but a sweet lass?! Have you considered any of the early spring events that I'm hearing about? We're getting a lovely snowstorm today, perhaps I shall make a snow angel....lt's the only angel I'll be approved of! (grin and snicker) :haloslip:
Hey Sultry...
If I have been reading correctly, you are asking questions in the wrong local.
Not that this is anything bad, but you may get more anwsers and meet more from your local if you post there!
Also, I noticed you joined the membership to local 69.
I am pretty sure being from Michigan makes you in another local (which I cannot think of off the top of my head).....
You may want to make sure you join the right local membership in the forums so you can keep up to date on local happenings!
Welcome to the guild and the forums!

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not. The forum I'm sending posts to is # 69. How do I know if I joined the wrong one? I haven't gotten my membership number yet....I'm thinking I messed up already :(
no, it is ok, no worries hun!
the local 69 is for members of the greater ny area.
It has nothing to do directly with your pin, only where you are located.
There are different forums here on the board for the different locals. There is nothing wrong with joining a different locals forum, but just trying to let you know that there is a local forum for you so you can mix and mingle with others in your area and that way you will know what faires or festivals are coming up soon....
still cannot remember which number the mich local area is!

I am supposed to be joined in the 57 chapter. I hope I did that right. Thank you for helping me. :D

If I remember right there's a second local up there. Technically, if you go by state, I'm 57, but since I'm closer to things/people down here I've joined 77.

Emblazoning things on your brain may be a bit painful. We could work you up a spiffy tatoo or something.
