Yes.

I just dont feel comfortable carrying around a wad of cash
Heh heh... heh... wad....

2. What excatly _is_ a kilt check
Smile and ask a scotsman.

3. They serve drinks other then Beer and stuff there, right?
"Beer and stuff" is a rather comprehensive list, but I guess the answer would be yes. I've seen beer, hard cider, hard lemonade, champagne, wine, mead, soft drinks, iced tea, lemonade and smoothies.

I don't recall seeing any hard alcohol sold at the faires I've been to, but there's always more than a few people carrying flasks who are willing to share.

4. Is there a game called Pin the tail on the rogue?
Probably.

Some vendors do, some don't. It all depends on if the vendor has a credit card terminal in their booth. Some sites do have ATMs but you will need to check your faires site.

2. What excatly _is_ a kilt check

A kilt check is looking under a kilted man's kilt to see if he is regimental or not. There are various methods to do so and each wench probably has their own method.

3. They serve drinks other then Beer and stuff there, right?

I have never had a problem finding soft drinks or water at a faire site. If you are calorie watching, you may want to review the booths before making a food purchase.

just didnt want to be stuck in a place where there was only beer and such there since I dont touch the stuff, but yay, soft drinks

:

Your best bet is to check the website of the faire you plan to visit. Most faires accept credit cards at the gate for admission, and in the faire's own souvenir shop.

Generally, plan to pay cash for food & beverage, and for merchandise from individual acts (stuff like cds & t-shirts). Some faires have a shop where you can purchase merch from the acts and pay with a credit card (the main souvenir shop at Sterling and House of Musical Traditions at MDRF for example).

Not all vendors are equipped to process credit cards...again check the faire's website...most have a list of their vendors with links to their websites. If something really interests you, email the vendor and ask their policy.

Hope this helps! :D

Actually Sarah, that's the problem. You go back. Then you go back again. Then you start checking into other faires in your area. Then you say to yourself, "OK, I will olny drive X miles to get to a faire." Then you up the X miles by 100. Then you start checking into airfare....

"These spring/fall faires are really cool! I should get a warmer outfit."

"And a cloak."

"That would look so great with my (FitB) outfit!"

"That doesn't go with a single thing I own...but I like it...I'll just have to buy an outfit to match." :D

Oh and guys you go and go and go to fair and then you start to work at them(that's how it worked for me at least)

And Tink your comin' up this year???? cool

nope. not at all... not like me... ;)

and I'll take it one step further from your last point... you build/create/sew an outfit either from a particular piece you purchased, saw in a painting/picture/, took inspiration from the world around you.

In The Beginning, the way I tried to keep my spending low was to pick one major item to shop for each year. That didn't last long.

All the faires I have been to had at least one ATM nearby. I Also know that most vendors MUCH prefer cash over credit cards. I have had a ton of vendors skip charging me the sales tax if I paid in cash. or even given me a slight discount for cash. Cash costs them a trip to the bank, credit cards costs them all kinds of processing fees. So you will find the wad of cash is more helpful. Althought I'd reccommend wandering around the faire and pick stuff and then wander some more and come back to buy it. You run the risk of it being bought by someone else, But it makes youy spend less impulsivly.

What he said.

As a vendor, I *highly* encourage my clients to walk around and think about it. Our sales staff is helpful, will tell you if something looks good (or bad!), and send you off to think. Impulsive sales generally = unhappy clients, and we don't like that. It makes us sad. ;)

Also, with cash, you can budget yourself better. You walk in KNOWING that you have X amount of dollars, and that's all you're allowing yourself to spend. Period.

Oh god. That is SO me. both comments. I started with one faire, then said.... but that one is only a few hours away. then it was... well, THAT one is only a couple hours further. Then THAT one is just a few hours beyond. I've determined my driving limit for a one weekend show is ten hours..... basically, GARF. But airfare is so much cheaper these days.... now it's more reasonable to fly out to distant shows. Especially when I have lodgings arranged for free.
