Hi Gals,

I watched it.

I still have no idea how FOX can get away with this concept, but it is like a car wreck....don't wanna look, but you do. Only the official wreck hasn't happened yet...you just know it's coming.

They have this guy coached to know what wine goes with what food, etiquette, waltzing, etc. He seems to be rather uneasy with deceiving the women, but yet........ he's doing it.

Last night he wanted to try and catch the women of guard with an impromptu meeting outside "his" chateau, because, as his dad told him, if you want to know about woman's looks, look at her mom and also look at her without make-up. Well he rides up on a horse, says his quick hello and then he attempts to get back on the horse, but hits his chin on the saddle and stumbles. VERY Suave......LOL

The women have to attend a ball that night to formally meet him one on one. There are 20 women and FOX supplies exactly 20 dresses. (How deliciously evil and calculated is that?! lol) The women have to fight, bargain and some, cheat to get a dress they want. One of them gets stuck with a dress that doesn't fit at all, but lucks out when the seamstress swaps dresses with her and she ends up with one of the nicest ones.

Anyway, our dashing "millionaire" cuts 8 women after the ball. Leaving 12 which he gives each a strand of pearls. (Apparently each week the gifts will get more extravagant.)

The whole thing seems quite choppy and rushed. Next week he cuts 7 more. Leaving 5. How they plan to fill 5 more shows after that with only 5 women should be interesting.

For anyone who's a Trading Spaces fan...now we know what happened to the original host Alex McCleod...she's hosting this show. However, she's really stiff and robotic. Hopefully she'll loosen up, because watching her was painful.

The guy seems nice and actually rather shy and unsure of himself. That may just be due to all the lying he has to do which he isn't comfortable doing. He doesn't think quick when he gets taken off guard by the questions the women pose. One woman asked him his middle name and the guy froze like a deer in the headlights. It was funny to watch him unable to answer a simple question and how long it took him to come up with a response. (the producers were using his middle name as his last name for the show, so he ended up giving his mom's maiden name and saying it didn't flow well, so he never uses it...LAME...lol) PS...hope he doesn't use his mom's maiden name for banking and credit card security becuase he's screwed now....

What did you think?

I watched it... It was pathetic... ILOVEDIT! It is showing how truly shallow these women are... I can't wait to see what happens when they find out he makes 19,000 a year...

And c'mon, Like this was the first time these girls got a pearl necklace from a guy they just met. (fox knew JUST what this meant)

I saw the last part of it. The entire concept is horrible.

Imagine...to start off a relationship with such a deliberate lie! He says he hopes to find a woman who isn't interested in his "money" but wants him for himself??? Give me a break!

The guy looks nice. Tall, dark and handsome! Couldn't he find a good woman without this TV show??

It just goes to show you that some people will do anything to be on TV.

Now...a wench...a guy knows whats being offered

If I heard the words "fairy tale" one more time that show, I would have thrown something at the TV. Thankfully, I opted to change the channel after 15 minutes and checked back occasionally... though EVERY time, Iheard some stupid girl say "fairy tale".

Ew.

No, I didn't watch it, I was at rehersal for a play that I am stage managing. Plus I didn't really think that it would be that good of a show to watch. But I am interested in seeing at least one episode when I get the chance. These women though, do they really think that he is this rich? Aren't any of them suspicious of anything? :?:

NOPE....the women have no diea, thus far. They all think he inherited $50 million 2 yrs ago.No reason for any of them to suspect a thing, unless this guy screws up. He claims he is terrible at lying, so it may very well happen.

A friend of mine theorized the following:

"Joe" really IS a millionaire, and claiming that he only makes $19,000 a year is the lie. (My friend said that construction workers make a lot more than that, and he'd know better than I do.)

So he figures they'll tell the women who make the cut that he's only worth $19,000, see who stays and who walks...and whoever stays gets told he really *is* a millionaire.

Then I got to thinking....they're claiming these women are highly-paid professionals--doctors, executives, etc. etc. etc.

Maybe *that's* a lie too? Maybe these women in reality are waitresses, grade-school teachers, cashiers, that in the real world, "Joe" turned *his* nose up at?

Or maybe we're all just paranoid?

A woman in my office had a similar theory that he may very well actually be rich.

I have been saying that I don't get how he can only make $19K if he works full time construction, as well. However, another woman in the office says that may be all he claims on his taxes....the rest he makes off the books. Which is indeed, entirely possible.

As for the women.....only one is listed as a doctor, the rest are flight attendants, secretarie, computer specialist, etc....check the website for their bios: http://www.fox.com/joem/

PS.......Many of these chicks look WAY older than they claim to be, which is what I noticed.....that bitchy one Heidi says she's 24, but she looks older to me for sure. lol

I'm making a moral stand on this show and refuse to watch. It's completely despicable!

I will agree to one things, though, the guy is quite cute! Not really my type, but cute.

I only want to watch the last show ... when I can see the woman he chooses RIP HIS FACE OFF when she finds out the truth.

My thought is they could have at least got someone who makes a decent salary (I couldn't support my show habit on $19,000 a year ... not to mention clothes). That way when she finds out he is not a millionaire, at least she won't have to support him.

Hurrah!! I missed it!!

I've been way too occupied (during my brief tv watching time) watching all the extras on the extended dvd set of the Fellowship of the Ring!! yay!

Show sounds wacked and not really what I feel like watching...but alot of interesting theories being posted here!

The problem I have is with the whole concept. I mean, it's a no-win situation all the way around. The guy's going to come off as either a spineless pawn of Fox or a confirmed liar. The women are either going to be scorned as gold-diggers, or let the entire world know that they're okay with a guy who's tricked them and lied to them for months. I mean, say this guy "chooses" you, then turns out to be a fake. If you say, "Sorry, I can't abide lying," Joe America's going to say, "She was only in it for the money. All women are." But if you stay with him, well, most of the women in the country are going to say, "What kind of basis for a relationship is THAT?"

Who benefits from this kind of lowest-common-denominator trash? I wouldn't mind so much if it were just one show, but reality shows have become every station's "must-have-TV," and they're just getting slimier by the season. Ick.

Ick ick ick.

I'd much rather watch Buffy.

LOL....yes reality TV is definitely getting worse and worse. The newest one I heard about yesterday is called "Married by America" where 2 absolute strangers are picked by the TV audience to get married....and DO!!

Really contributes to the attitude that marriages are as disposable as diapers....

Sad, sad, sad......

Yeah, I do agree that this guy lying the whole time may give guys the idea that it's perfectly ok.....however, I suppose their spin on it, is that he is genuine in every other way. Kind of like men who are successful, keeping just how successful they are to themselves when they first meet a woman....to make sure they don't go out with them because of that....

I know if I was well-off....I'd want to keep it under wraps, so that I knew the men I met were interested in me.....NOT my cash.

...I watched Entertainment Tonite or Access or Extra or whatever...they interviewed him and asked him if the rumor was true if he really was a millionaire. He said no he wasnt, wished he had a bunch of zeros after the amt he has in his checking acct and actually he has "zero" in his checking acct (yea right...) They also asked him "Without giving away the ending,if you choose one of them, are you ready to get married?" He answered NO!!!........he is a hunk and might be rich but when he talks...he sounds about as smart as a box of rocks (IMHO).....I agree with Amethyst...someone is gonna rip his face off.......oh great (tongue firmly planted in cheek) now they are showing him in his speedo/thong/briefs :moon: pics from before all this started......OH MY GAWD!!!! Im sure he is just joking but said he just needed cash thats why he took the underwear pics and "That aint a roll of quarters in there..."

I'm sorry - I loved it in all it's pathetic deceptiveness. Call me a bitch (some have), but I've long hated the shows where women line up to prove who's willing to stoop to the lowest level to win a date with some loser guy. What kind of message does that send to adolescent and preadolescent girls? Be a slut ... never have any convictions of your own ... sell out to the first guy you see and complete visciously against other women to do it. Puh-leeze ... the best Eliminidate I ever saw was when all four women took themselves out of contention because the guy was such an asshole.

None of these women will sue - I'm sure they signed lots of waivers and disclaimers before they ever appeared. What they're getting is personal publicity. Most of 'em don't really even want the guy - they want their 15 minutes of fame in hopes they can catch the eye of someone who will assist them in parlaying that 15 minutes into a small fortune.

Frankly it's no different than the way marriages used to be arranged during our beloved renaissance ... it was a business arrangement between men to advance their social standing and wealth using a woman as the chattle.

I'd have hoped women would have advanced more than that, but sadly too many of our numbers seem willing to sell their looks and their bodies for material riches rather than developing themselves into a person rich in character.

I say these women deserve whatever is coming to them for being so shallow. Of course the theory he's actually wealthy might just be the truth and the "joke" may be on the viewing audience. In which case, the rich get richer, and the pretty, shallow women still get ahead by default. I hope that's not the case - it would be too much like reality for me.
