so the job hunting is currently killing me. i've had some offers, but nothing i could realistically live on without sharing a living quarters with a vagrant family of gypsies. so this is what i've come up with, and i think i might just make up flyers and blanket northeastern illinois with them:

"well educated, dependable, outgoing female seeks permanent, full-time employment in chicago or the surrounding areas. has a BA in psychology (with 3.5 years experience in social work) and a BS in environmental science (emphases was on waste water management, 3 months experience while on a tour with the peace corps). will do ANYTHING for $35,000 a year. ANYTHING!

references and resume available upon request.

please enquire within."

what do you think, too desperate?

Hmmm. So what are you looking for? Psych or environmental consulting? The job market is tough, but I would think there would be openings galore in those two fields.

What you're asking for would probably be enough to live on if you were living in a smaller city, and maybe even Milwaukee if you had roommates. But that is WAY too low for the Chicago area, especially with your 3.5+ years experience. Maybe you should consider upping your salary range to compensate for the cost-of-living increase and the high probability you will need to either take public transportation or commute to your new job.

Keep your spirits up! :D I know it's easy to say and hard to do. It took over 7 months for me to find my current job, and it was worth going into debt for! I love my work, my job, and my co-workers are fun to work with (they think I'm quirky :P ), and although the commute is wearing on me after 1.5 years (it's an hour on the train each way), I can still read or sew instead of swearing out the window as I would likely do if I had to drive.

Send me a PM if you need suggestions for other search engines or to vent!
