Site maintenance

Hi all,

I'm going to be moving the IWG forums over to a new server shortly - not exactly sure when but will be this week, possibly today. This is, as usual, a huge undertaking, since the forum databases alone are gigantic, and I have to migrate email accounts over, etc.

In order to keep the forum downtime to a minimum, this is going to be my process:

1. Download the entire site's files - this includes forum uploads and avatars, so if you could hold off on making image changes to your profiles or uploading images for the next day or so, that would be great. They could get lost in the shuffle if you don't.

2. Close the forums (to prevent any new posts from getting lost)

3. Export the forum database, download it, upload it to the new server

4. Import into the new server's database

5. Turn stuff back on

I had planned on leaving the wench site until almost last (because its so big) but it has come to my attention that we're having some email issues (emails seem to be bouncing), so since I'm home sick today, it might be wise to just get it overwith.

So, if you come here and the forums are closed, nothing is wrong. Just means the migration is underway.

Just an FYI - the forums are back up now, but the main site got a little screwy because of the way I had to set up the databases on the new server. Hang tight. Am fixing it.

Heh - you're very kind - but being hands-off would mean nothing would get done... lol.. there is only me running this show.
