I saw this article (http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/feb/26/toilet-roll-america) today. And honestly, I never gave it too much thought. Many years ago, I tried recycled paper. I hated it, and so did my ass. It felt like sandpaper. And I've found that when I do use the not-so-soft kinds (like in a public place), I tend to use more of it just to do the same job.

And in all honesty, we are spoiled. Think about it. From birth, we are trained to use the stuff that feels better on our booty.

And going along these same lines, I found this article (http://living.wallypop.net/wipes.html). I tell ya what... not only no, but hell no as long as there are other options. Not for me. The ick factor is just too much. :yuck:

They all are. But that's not their complaint, yaknow. It's making the stuff to begin with that is their issue.

Changes like this? Yeah... unless there is a drastic change of the product in a fast period of time, they just don't happen overnight.

I'm all for living a "greener" life (for lack of better term du jour), but change comes from the folks with more influence and power than just little ole me.

Not working for me. Not because of they have to go in a can, we've had to do that for years at the cottage with a septic tank that's older than Lincoln. It's that I live in an apartment and I barely do laundry as it is.

I lived in Jordan for two years where the toilets were squat-me-down holes in ground with - GASP! - NO TOILET PAPER. You literally washed yourself w/water from a pitcher. I, being a spoiled dilettante, needed warm water. Then wash your hands till the skin peels off.

As the result of chemo & radiation to the "inguinal area", I must have TP that is both strong & soft. If my radiation burn flairs up, I must have TP that is both strong, soft, AND treated w/aloe & lotion. I'm just glad to live in a country where this is easily available.

I've been buying a product called Charmin Basic (or something like that). It's one-ply tissue that's soft. I'll have to read the label next time I purchase it to see if it's recycled or virgin. And I'm with Bux - the harm to the environment becomes negligible when you consider the water, energy and polluting detergents required for cloth. That - and the stank factor of keeping around a soiled butt-wipe just doesn't make sense to me.

Oh - and trees? They ARE a renewable resource.
