It looks as if this is official now. Now the only thing will be to wait and see how long it takes to get over here to the States.

DAMMIT! I was just coming to post this!
*snerk!*
My only problem is that it's 180 minutes, which means it'll be slightly shorter than the stage play. I'll have to check that, though. I remember curtain was 7.15, and I got out around 11, with a 20-minute interval.
Still? SO EXCITED!

Depends. How fast is your internet connection? ;-)

For regular internet stuff, the connection's fine .. For downloading it sucks. I can't even download a tv show from a network website.

Update: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/mandrake/4903759/David-Tennants-curtailed-Hamlet-will-rise-from-the-grave.html
Speaking at a lunch held at the Haymarket Hotel, Oliver Ford Davies, 69, who was nominated for his portrayal of Polonius, tells me: "We are intending to film it over two or three weeks in June. It won't be a full feature film as there isn't time but it will certainly be more than just the filming of the stage."
Interesting....

Yup. That's what I posted back when he first mentioned the project a few months ago. I'm insanely glad it's actually going to happen.

I'll be grateful the rest of my life that I did.
The cast is unbelievable. There's no way this won't be utterly amazing.

Slightly more information. Woot!
David Ajala was one of the cast members I met. Such a nice guy.

On'e of 'em's mine. WHAT a surprise. I'm sure you're all shocked. SHOCKED, I say.
Anyway, the RSC's feed says they're filming in an actual castle, running up and down the halls after the murder of Polonius. So they're obviously going to have a vastly different kind of staging. I'm partly--slightly!-- disappointed, but mostly insanely excited. I can't wait to see the costumes and sets!

**In Best Scarlet O'Hara voice" Why I never ever would have guessed that. Oh Mercy Me. ***rotfl*
The more I hear about it the more I want to see it. I have seen Shakespeare done in high school auditoriums, parks and theaters, both live and movie. Set everywhere from the original time to the American Old West to WWII. This is going to be great.

This one was set in Elsinore, but done in modern-dress. Hamlet spends much of the play in t-shirt and jeans or a tuxedo. Gertrude has a gorgeous trained sheath dress in shocking red. Ophelia drowns in a pretty cotton day dress. I want to know if they're keeping the same costumes, or changing things up. I'm especially psyched to see how they're going to handle the death of Polonius, which was stunning in the stage set. They mentioned chandeliers in one blog or tweet, so I'm hoping they've retained some elements of the theatre staging.
Filming apparently wrapped yesterday, but I've been reading the production blog, and it's great. (These guys are eating like royalty, I swear. Pears baked in red wine? Tartes aux pommes? "Pork chop with plums or salmon or a risotto with asparagus, since you ask. Desert was an equally tough choice of Canterbury pudding [apples and citrus] or pineapple salad with mint. The cheeseboard was pretty good too." Dammit! I'm in the wrong business!) It's amazing to see just how passionate all these people are. Wonderful. And the photos are great, too!

ETA:
And almost all my questions on staging and costuming were answered in the comments a few weeks ago. Nice to know I'm not the only one thinking these things!
