...or at least one nightclub does. Banning douchebags http://trueslant.com/jeffkoyen/2009/11/13/aussie-club-promoter-officially-bans-douchebags-from-event/

more here. http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,26339190-421,00.html Oh, I wish we had a dress code like this here!

While a rather large part of me giggles in delight at the very idea... it's not really right. Discrimination based on poor fashion choices? Uhhh, no.

"You can't come in my club 'cause you don't wear the right clothes!"

Wow. How junior high can you get?

I wonder if you have to write a note in order to get a dance partner, or buy someone a drink. "Will you dance with me? Check yes or no"

:unamused:

The amusing part was that they are trying to discourage bar fights. If you really want to discourage barfights, don't serve alcohol IMHO. That way, nobody will come to your bar: problem solved!

"douchey fashion statement" I love that line.

The reverse of this happens all the time in night clubs in the States. "If you aren't beautiful enough, famous enough or dressed cool enough you don't get in" Yeah for reversed discrimination.

We used to stand across the street and laugh at all the people in line trying to get in. At the time, I worked at CBGB's so we knew how cool we were!

They've had "dress codes" in place in Austin nightclubs for years. Except it's not necessarily about being a d-bag, but more along the lines of "no gang colors/symbols" and the like allowed. Many have standard dress codes of "no t-shirts, ripped jeans and must wear shoes".

I actually remember one event that happened to me a few years ago at a pool hall (note- NOT a high class nightclub... it's a frelling pool hall). My guy-at-the-time and I were in there shooting pool, I was wearing a standard stretchy-type blouse, he was wearing a t-shirt with no sleeves. (Reminder... hot weather in Texas!).

Anyway, so the bouncer came over to us and asked him to leave because he (a man) had to wear a shirt with sleeves, per the dress code. The code only specified men... not women. So, we walked outside, traded shirts and walk back in 5 minutes later. Really now... what could they say at that point? HE was in a shirt with sleeves as mandated by their posted code, I was in a tank top with big boobs. ;-)

The sleeves-on-guys thing is a hygiene issue. Guy pit hair, ugh. ::freakyf: :snicker:

If it's a dress code, fine. There are specific reasons for those guidelines and they're not discrimination-based. But not allowing certain clothes simply because 'I don't like it' or 'you look like a tool' isn't a valid reason.

Douchebag culture is to dress a certain way and go to clubs and start fights. I avoid clubs where popped collars, ed hardy shirts and capris on men are a normative. The bouncers work way too much over time.

Seriously? There's a culture towards fighting from those who dress like that? Oh man, I feel out-of-touch now. Previous 'no reason for it' statements retracted. Sheesh. Lemme slink off to my corner now, if only I can get this walker to cooperate on the rug. ::badhair:

Wow, is there actually a douchebag culture? I guess Vampire culture went out of style? it just amazes me that anyone out of high school dresses like that. Actually it amazes me that anyone dresses like that.
I think I'll just stay here under my rock.

Reading the article linked in the OP leads me to believe that "metrosexual" in Australia means something very different from what it means here in the states.....

The sleeves-on-guys thing is a hygiene issue. Guy pit hair, ugh. ::freakyf: :snicker:

So the sleeve policy must also then apply to European women? ::runfore: ::badhair:

OK - I have it wrong. I'm finding it difficult to pin down a precise definition of douchebag where it applies to a lifestyle - but I'm apparently not alone. I'm thinking it defies precise definition and is instead a matter of experience - kind of like, you'll know a douchebag when you see one. In the meanwhile - I did find this helpful:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=douchebaggery

And I think I know several douchebags! LOL

OK - I saw one yesterday ... at Walmart. Kinda skinny, jeans too tight, popped collar and a hairdo reminiscent of Jon Crier's "Duck-do" in "Pretty in Pink." Oh - and let's not forget the overly manicured moustache. Gah!
