Now I have to preface this with the fact that I normally do not like Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA.) but she called out the men who are trying to tack on the anti-choice riders to the Health Care Reform Bill. (BTW it's no longer Stupak, now it's Nelson.) I applaud her today.

Essentially her message was: How would you like it if we singled out Viagra? (http://thinkprogress.org/2009/12/07/boxers-viagara/)

My only wish is that there were a stronger argument than Viagra to use in this throw-down.

I applaud her for coming out and putting it that way. Kudos to her for standing up for us!

I think it's actually a decent example to use. Viagra, while some people argue to the contrary, is a luxury item. Erectile dysfunction is considered a medical condition so it's not marked as such, but everyone pretty much knows that if a man wants it, he's given it. It costs a fair amount for the next couple of years, yet it's covered. Now look at a pregnancy a woman is forced to keep against her will. There are medical costs associated with prenatal care, delivery, and after-care. Having a baby is more expensive in terms of money than terminating a pregnancy. Add into that the privacy issues and you have a government using monetary control to regulate what it perceives as an "irresponsible lifestyle" - any woman "foolish" enough to have unplanned pregnancy.

don't even let me get started about the disparity between men's health and women's health issues - particularly in the reproductive area!!!!!
