Soap and water works for me.
Keep it dry-- stainless will rust if it's stored wet. If it does rust, polish it with a little Barkeeper's Friend or the like.
Make sure to wipe it with a napkin or hankie after using it and before sheathing it. That helps keep the inside of the sheath clean and keeps the blade dry. Sharpen it like you would a good chef's blade.

Wipe it off on your pants, or dress in your case. And if it becomes rusty rub it with steel wool, and coat it with oil. But mainly just wipe it on your pants once you've finished eating.

do you know what grade stainless it is? some of the series have more nickel/chromium added into and take longer to rust.
and dont use steel wool if it does rust. use a very fine sand paper. say 600-800 grit. after words oil it with something other then WD-40. WD-40 is a great oil but has isnt a preservative oil. This is coming from someone that has damn near 20 years expierance with working metals, so take that for what ya will.

even better than sandpaper are those green scrubby pads? They take off the rust and/or corrosion without taking off the good metal. I use them on all my swords and knives.
