Okay. I bought yarn. I bought needles. Now what?

I have a book, from 1975, but it's hard to follow. I've tried to look on the net, but can't really find anything good. Any suggestions?

The knitting magazines on the newstands now (Family Circle Easy Knitting and/or Creative Knitting) all have some fairly easy to follow directions for the basics. They also have some easy beginner patterns. You can also visit your LYS (local yarn store)--most have a knitting room/table where you can pull up a chair, and have someone available to show what you're doing wrong--or cheer you on when you've got it down!
Most JoAnn's and Michaels have classes, too.
Welcome to the club!

Thanks! I don't have a JoAnn's nearby (so sad) but I've got a Michaels and an AC Moore. I forgot that they have classes. Oooh, I have a really close Rag Shop too! Off to their websites!

Thanks so much! (because I need another hobby like I need more garb)

Personally, I find knitting easier than crochet, becuase the needles help keep the stitches uniform. In crochet, it's more up to you to do that, and requires a bit of practice.

Here's a link to some online instructions. With the "Cast on" and "Purl" instructions, that's enough to get started, and you can make a scarf!

DUH!!!!!    Don't we all need more GARB?!?!?!? I was of the opinion from having read the boards that a person could NEVER have tooooooooooooo much garb.

BTW, Kate, I missed you sooooooooooooooooo much last weekend. I'm still depressed over not having any money to go to PARF. I barely left the house for the whole weekend.

Friends tell me there is always NEXT year. I don't wanna wait that long tho.
