Hi gang,
As a privateer and a member of Team Wench, I'm involved in the MD Privateer Feast. I really should work up an ensemble for this event.
Along those lines, I have this absolutely faboo one-of-a-kind wool "jester's jacket" that screamed, "I'm your size and just what a carpenter on shoreleave would wear!" So I'm planning on wearing that and my boots.
But I'm not sure what to wear between the two. I'm thinking pants, but I don't have a good pattern for them.
Suggestions?

Lori,
It actually isn't all that hard to make short pants (you know, pantaloons, or anything even vaguely resembling the short pants that I make for Joe to wear at faire). I even do some of them without a pattern (literally two rectangles with elastic, with a square sewn diagonally ten inches below the waistline between the two of them, like a gusset. It's really easy to do, but really hard to describe). It's the same way I do my bloomers pattern, but if I'm wearing it on the outside, I'm a bit more careful about the elastic and how it lies at the waist. Then you get the pants that blouse out of the boot cuffs, looks kinda neat.
OR, you could do the tights thing. You've seen Morghana's webpage on creating tights if I'm not mistaken. But I think the bloused pantaloons go much better with the piratey type thing. ;) Besides, if you don't have a serger, the pantaloons are easier (tights are best made on a serger).
If you want any help, drop me a line on the side, k?

:D Thanks Cyd--I figured it was something like that. Just realized I posted to the wrong forum as well.
I've got a pattern I use for bloomers--could just lengthen them a bit to make sure they get *in* the boots.
Any suggestions on types of fabric? I want something on the warm side...

A wool gabardine would be really nice and warm, yet still flow. Sometimes on the pricey side, tho, depending upon where you buy it. A cotton gabardine would also suffice (you know my feelings on poly fabrics). Even a heavyweight sandwashed silk (like the bullseye silk pants) would do nicely (and in fact I've been known to wear my bullseye pants in lieu of pantaloons or such).
I'd just suggest using a bloomers pattern, but with a wider waistband (and also wider elastic). Gives you more of that gypsy/pirate impression. Too skinny a waistband and it doesn't look right. And make it so it comes down to just below your knees. If you can cuff it below the knees (loose cuff, otherwise you'll cut your circulation off when you bend your knees), then all the better, it'll always blouse where YOU want it to.
Mmm... I suddenly get the urge for a heavyweight silk... Mmmm....

Thanks bunches, Cyd--I might have to get meself to Hancock's this week--they had some loverly drapey woolstuffs at 40% off.
Or perhaps I'll wait a bit and go for the silk. Mmmmm....

All right, wench, you are NOT permitted to tell me when things go on sale at local fabric stores, k? *smirk* My collection is bad enough as it is! ;)
And any time you need help, let me know.
Cyd (she who dies with the most fabric still dies, when's the estate sale?)

Then I shouldn't tell you about the discount fabric store that Kimmie found, should I? :P

Evil. You're just evil.
Tell me it's better than Jo-Mar on a sale day, and I'll have you drawn and quartered before you'll have to slide off the plank because your legs won't work anymore... :mmph:
Love ya, hon... ;)
Cyd (oh geez, not another sale...)

LOL! I don't know, because I haven't been to either. But I'll find out about Kimmie's store and let you know...
Muahahaha!

who can buy fabric this year! Yippee!
Wanna buy some of mine? I've got more fabric than I have room in that house... and Joe's getting pissy that the garage is full. ;)
Cyd (I'm going to get tackled by a load of fabric...)
