I know I can't be the only one here who plays it. Got it for the computer but I have the wrong graphics card so I sent it to Tempest O'Malley and got the XBox version. It really is a blast.

Your graphics card would be why. I had to call tech support to find out but mine was doing the same thing. They don't have it on PS unfortunately. I had to turn around and get a new xbox to play it since I let the ex keep the old one. I just got a used one at EB Games. Maybe if enough people say something they might put it on PS though.

I love this game too. Also have 'Gettysburg". Found out the PC versions have a graphic card issue that's why they shut down. No PS2 vesion, just PC and XBOX. Got the RIT playing this and he loves the battles. Even has certain ports he goes to because he "likes" the fights when the barmaids help!

Here's a fun *CHEAT*
"Talk Like a Pirate Day in Sid Meier's Pirates!
When the data of the computer is set to September 19th (International Talk Like a Pirate Day), everyone will talk differently in the game. You will become ye. Avast, Shiver me timbers, and Arr will punctuate every other sentence. Nothing like a beautiful daughter of a governer talkin in pirate!
The dialogue is noticably different from the standard fare. Even in the menus and the narrator."

And good way to round out your voyages - read Katie MacAlister's "Blow Me Down"

I played it for several hours but found it ultimately to be quite repetitive. I got up to I think 2nd or 3rd on the famous list but ended up drifting away from it and concentrating on Warcraft.

I'm not a gamer at all, but even I played Pirates a couple of times. And speaking of WoW, kiddo's slowly but surely getting me into it... (But I love to watch Stubbs the Zombie just 'coz it's so damn goofily gross and funny.)

actually I've been trying to decide if I wanted to get this game. I'm a big Sims and Sims 2 addict, so Sid Meier's I know lol.

I rented it for the X-box, and as soon as I can get the control out of little man's hands I'll give it a shot.

Can you tell me more about Pirates? Seem to have missed this one but I'm a total Civ III addict.

Defintely a big Sims and Sim2 player too!!! Although I have fallen away from Sims 1 since I have the Sims 2. I like the graphics and interaction better.
Well I guess since they dont make it for PS2 I will just have to wait, or go get a new xbox (might have to twist hubbies arm).
I prefer the PC versions cause basically mine goes about everywhere I go, and if i get bored I have something to entertain myself. (mind out of the gutter people)

wow a Sims2 addict as well, I can't ever seem to find them. I agree with the falling off of Sims. I did buy my sister the Sims, as the TS2 is a little more ADULT in nature. ya know Open for Business is coming out at the end of the month? debating on if I'm buying it then or waiting for it to go down in price.

I have it, and a absolutely loved it when I started playing. I never officially 'retired' from pirating in the game that I started, but I'm at number one on the most famous pirates list. After that, I put it down for a while, looked back and reflected on how awesome I was. ;)

I have been a Sid Meier fan: Civ I II and III as well as Alpha Centauri on my PC. Is Pirates similar to the Civs at all? It sounds cool...and since I quit EQ, there has been a void in my life where a good solid game addiction belongs.

Avast, ye scurvy sea dogs! Arrr!

So I went and got the game for my PC...it looks seriously cool! But...I haven't yet gotten the game to run for more than 5 minutes without crashing! :unamused: Looks like I am running into the same problem as Jules and Kerowyn. Called tech support, and my graphics driver is obsolete. I am thinking I ought to acquire a newer box (mine currently runs Win98). I guess I could get an xbox as a last resort..but hopefully the PC game will run well on a newer machine. We'll see what happens...for now I am a frustrated little pirate!
