I've had people tell me they don't believe the Black List actually exists. Sigh.
Isn't this ironic?

this gets me ---
"It should have taken 10 minutes," he said. "We do regret that an American hero was inconvenienced."
inconvenienced?!?!? HIGHLY INSULTED more like. :unamused:
Do I hear the faint rumblings of Joe McCarthy rising from the dead?

Unfortunately, Im not surprised by this. It goes back alot further than todays Gulf War.

You'll pardon me if I'm not overly bothered by this. Sure it sucks that a returning vet was held up but come on. It was one hour. Not like he was thrown in prison for a week.... I think a list like this would have been nice to have 5 years ago.
On the other hand... Daniel Brown? Who else is on this list, John Smith?

Daniel Brown, being a fairly common name, could easily be an aliad for "Crazy MadBomber" or something.
And anyway, who says that a soldier couldn't be a terrorist? Now before going crazy on me, think about it. Perhaps not a Staff Sgt. (or maybe even) but some people are weak especially if a large sum of money is involved. Really, just anyone in ANY desperate situation could make a stupid decision. Any one person, no matter how normal thier life seems could be part of the problem. He of all people should know that, he just saw it first hand.
And playing the "A guy goes over and serves his country fighting for eight or nine months, and then we come home and put up with this?" card doesn't sit well with me.
I, personally, feel safer knowing that the airlines/airports take this watch list seriously and even if someone or myself gets delayed here and there, I know that I'm safer in the long run.

Mornin Goils!
Yup....looks like the airline dropped the ball here. I mean, sounds like this guy's company was flying commercial.....If it had been a real Homeland Security issue, Sgt. Brown shouldn't and wouldn't have been boarded at his point of departure. And as an M.P., I'm sure he was not complaining about the security measures, just his frustration at wanting to get home.
And Cohen????? I'll watch your list anytime!

I'm not complaining that there's a watch list. I'm complaining that it's so scattered and badly handled that anyone can get stopped for anything. To me, that breeds a cry-wolf mentality, and that's going to bite us in the ass one day. If we have concrete evidence that someone could be a risk, we need to have all their information getting to the right people. If someone with a name is a risk, why isn't there a photo or further identifying material with that file? And if your name's on the no-fly list, and you haven't done anything, how do you get it off? The burden of proof shouldn't be on the innocent, and far too often, it is.
Oh, and Happy Belated, Reaver, you glorious man, you.

Knowing we are NOT speaking of the same Cohen, when I was 16, I went to Jamaica with the parents. Coming back to Rochester, NY, we got off the plane and then had to proceed through customs.
When they got to my father, they saw his name was Ronald Cohen, pulled him to the side and said they had to do some checking because he was on some list that would prevent him froming coming into the US.
EXCUSE ME --- He was born in the US!
It just goes to show, when you have a common name, how things can get all screwed up. (They almost pulled me aside because they only had me down as R. Cohen and not Robin Cohen.)

I'm flying to London at the end of the month. I can't WAIT to see what happens with a name like mine. Sigh.

Reminds me of how the bank refused to open an account under my preferred name: Initials and long, hyphenated last name because of new security measures. Had a proper SS #, was not withholding my first or middle names, just prefer my first initial. This, of course, would now make me a suspect on airlines! A while back when two women were arrested on suspicion of airline terrorism a major "clue" was that they only used their initials and last names on their tickets.
More seriously, it is scary that a seemingly innocent habit of longstanding has become a security alarm.
