Afternoon Goils!

Willow...as screwy as this sounds... go to Brotherhood Winery in Washingtonville, NY. Their Tej-Honey wine (made from 100% pure honey)
is leaps above a "McMeade" like Chaucer's. Plus they have a great May Wine and Holiday Wine fer mulling. Plus, it's like 15 min. from Tux Gate.

And I still think it would be a great place for a bunch of us to visit. A few of us went to a tasting last year one Saturday afternoon and had a blast!!!!

So, I googled the Brotherhood (and they seemed to enjoy it) and came up with this mead called, Sheba Te'j Honeywine. Is it the same thing as you mentioned, Reaver? Or anybody else, for that matter?

The east coast has lots of nice wines, I'll have to check out your suggestion. Thanks. I've never actually made a note of the meade served at NYRF, I suppose they generally use local or no?

A wine tasting is always a good time. It would be great thing to get a bunch of folks together and do on a saturday afternoon.

Martin's Honey Farm is a 5 minute drive from the Sterling Renaissance Faire. I believe they are the official mead makers for Sterling. They have 3 honey meads, a dry, a semi-sweet and a sweet. They also make at least 6 fruit wines, several of which are mixed with the mead. All are yummy.

And yes, they ship...... Very reasonable prices, usually less than what one would pay for a bottle of Chaucers.

The Lurgashall is a decent mead, but I'm not a big fan of the anise and clove they use in it. The same vinyard makes a "Christmas Meade" as well.

You just have to know how to look, there are several out there.

You should acquire a special bottle now and save it for the celebration of the birth of your child:wink:

I used to have a hard time finding mead here in CT. fortunately the offerings are improving. I'm a lurgashall fan, I like that you can really taste the honey and spices. Then they have the evil concoction called Tower of London,( Lurgashall Mead with Scotch) . I 've had Honey Run's fruit honeywines before, but recently I found their mead Ragnar's Revenge.
I'm always looking for new meads to try!

You bet Cricket....:aok:

It'd be a ROCKIN' fun way to spend a nice spring day. The folks up there are real nice, they have a couple of shops (including a holistic supply store) on the grounds and usually live music outside on weekends.

Just a thinkin',

At NYRF we serve the Chaucer's mead, which I've actually found sold in a local liquor store in my area.

As for the Brotherhood Winery, I've heard very nice things about them. I'm not sure how well I'd do with a wine tasting tour, as I'm very particular about what kinds of wine I'll drink. Though the chance to taste some other mead is appealing! :-D

There's another meade that goes around, called Magpie Meade. I'm sure some of you in NYRF have heard of it. Especially those in Pennsic who frequent Casa Bardicci (of which I am a member).

Not only does he sell meade, now official, he is now opening his winery. Open to all the weekend of June 2, 3, and 4th.

This is the email that's going 'round:

It is with great pleasure that I announce to you the Grand Opening of Magpie Farms Winery!

Finally, after all these years of waiting, you will be able to buy Magpie Mead!

The details will follow, along with a new email address, and a new web site with all the info you will need. Feel free to forward this to anybody you think might be interested.

The date of the opening is June 2-3-4

Friday will be a basic day, with some entertainment, some light fare, and wine tasting.

Saturday will be the big day. I will be CO hosting an SCA demo event. There will be weapons fighting, and all sorts of Arts and Sciences. This is not just a demo, this is a full on Arts and Sciences competition. You do NOT need to be SCA member to enter the Arts and Sciences competitions.

So if you are a weaver, or a metal smith, or a potter, or any other kind of crafter, bring your best crafted items with you. The kingdom of the East has been heard laughing at how they will walk away with all the prizes. I certainly hope that Aethelmearc doesn't let them get away with such brash talk! Sunday will be mostly just cleaning up, and scraping ourselves off. =)

Food is being provided by none other than Phil's Grill. The great Mediterranean food made famous at both The Pennsic War, and Brushwood/Starwood

I would love for all of you, my friends, to come and join me in this celebration of my dream quest fulfilled.

The scope and scale of this event may change depending on how many of you say you are coming, when you are coming, and for how long. I do need help from any and all willing bodies.

I will need volunteers for setup, for breakdown, for basic grounds keeping during the weekend, parking lot attendants, and so forth. Just 2 or 3 hours per person should be plenty, if enough people volunteer.

Other things that I could use, would be tents, Tikki torches (or some other kind of lighting) , tables and chairs Anybody who can help me with these things, please let me know.

I forgot to mention that I am also in need of performers.

So if you or anybody you know, would like to play music at my opening. Either as a wandering minstrel, or a band in a set location, or just doing our version of "Amedieval Idol" bardic competition, please let me know. Any belly dancing, fire spinning, knife jugglers want to come play? Face painters anybody? If enough people do Italian opera, I may have to create a special category for that. ;) Oh, and if anybody is interested in vending, I have space for you too!

Since I know nothing about holding a festival (I never had a grand opening before!) Anybody with advice or suggestions please feel free to speak up!

Thanks again everybody!

See you all soon,
Steve Magpie
