OK, am I the only one here who finds this ridiculous?!?!? :unamused:

You know...judges demand to be treated like gods when they sit on their bench, but things like this just make a mockery of the whole system.

Actually... I kinda see the point. Lemme 'splain...
The two opposing counsel can't agree on ANYTHING. Judge sits through this for days, maybe weeks. Finally "Enough's enough! If you two are going to argue, bicker & fight like 6-year olds, you're going to settle this like 6-yr olds, dammit!"
With not knowing any more about the case than that little blurb... I applaud the judge.

How better to force an adult into acting like one than to shame/humiliate them into it?

That's awesome! Hillarious! *rotfl*
Ok, honestly, it does make the legal system look just a tad foolish. LOL I just thought it was great though, and agree with the above. If the layers are acting like children might as well settle it like children. I mean really, it's just over the location of where to take the witness statement for crying out loud. How much more humilating then to make them play this game on the steps of the federal courthouse. LOL and for both lawyers to be so stubborn about choosing the location that they're willing to go through with this joke rather than give up to their opponent.
Thanks for sharing this one Buxom!

Unfortunately sometimes shame can be a great behavioral modification tool. Perhaps this judge was trying to embarass these two lawyers into realizing how childish they were behaving?
I find this pretty funny, though.

I find it funny, as well. Working for the state's law firm, I've dealt with lawyers like this before.
Like I always say, go ask 6 lawyers a question about something, and you'll get 6 different answers.

Honestly, they knew what was going to happen if they did not grow up and start acting like adults. Sometimes the only way to deal with children is to treat them like children.
I find it amusing and am not at all outraged.

I'm not troubled by this.
Keep in mind that it wasn't the fate of the entire case that was being decided by the game, just one incredibly minute and largely inconsequential detail, the location where a single deposition was to be taken, that was being decided.
As others have already said, the laywers were acting like children, so they got treated like children, and at the same time a decision got made where there previously was an impasse. Sounds like win-win to me.
