Breast implants save woman's life?
Tue Aug 15, 2006 07:43 AM ET

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - An Israeli woman's breast implants saved her life when she was wounded in a Hizbollah rocket attack during Israel's war with the Lebanese group, a hospital spokesman said Tuesday.
Doctors found shrapnel embedded in the silicone implants, just inches from the 24-year-old's heart.

"She was saved from death," said a spokesman for Nahariya Hospital in northern Israel. The woman has been released from hospital.

That's it.. I'm looking into medical research to see if there's a market for Breast Bank Donations. I mean, hell, they'll take blood and sperm, why not fatty tissue? I'm sure it'd be a helluva lot healthier in the long run, and infinitely more real feeling to have donated fat versus silicone or saline impants.

It's funny.. in a twisted sort of way... I've been operating under the impression I was a DD. :unamused: So, I get to Lane Bryant this weekend to look for a bra to hack apart for the Belly Dancing outfit and nothing is working. You shoulda had video of me jumping around, bending and twisting, laybacks and whatnot... so, I caved and had the lady fit me. I think she had to hand me the smelling salts when she told me that I was a G cup.

That's what happened to me! I lost about 30 lbs last year and while my strap size went down my cup size went up! Mind you that's without using those machines at the gym that exercise your chest muscles. I avoided them (still do) for that very reason but it doesn't seem to have made a difference:-P

About 10-12 years ago, I dropped 67 pounds in 5 months (without trying).
The sad part was, I lost from just above the actual breasts and just under the actual breasts. My breasts actually grew an inch! How does that happen?!?!?!

Wow, ok, maybe I'll just be the unpopular vote again, but I don't see a damn thing wrong with getting a boob job. I'm actually contemplating one for myself. No, they're not real, but then, neither is a padded bra, and I'm thinking that a boob job will be a hellava lot more sightly than me prancing around with the equivalent of a roll of Charmin strapped to my chest.

I'm stalled at halfway between an A cup and a B. That's as far as I got after my son, and believe me, I'm quite sure they were sunken in before that. *lol*

Is it fake....you bet. But, I propose this idea, just as those of you wonderful ladies who might have been over-blessed feel self-conscious....imagine how it is for those of us considered "severely lacking". We feel the same doubts that anyone else would feel.

LOL I know, $30 for a bra that takes me down about half an inch instead of the advertised inch and a half is hardly worth my money and they're always so damned UGLY on top of that:unamused:

To the ladies who have trouble maintaining the girls while losing weight, as I mentioned earlier, using those machines at the gym that work the chest muscles are known to develop and enlarge the breasts (which is why I try to avoid them or don't use them too much). I've also heard rumors that squeezing the Thighmaster with your hands and arms gets awesome results in the boobage department:)

I see nothing wrong with ANY plastic surgery. If you're doing it for yourself and to make yourself happier, then that's even better.

And to contradict what you and Pathos are saying - it's breast tissue. So what if it's supplemented with a saline bolster? It's still, to me, a real breast.

And trust me Bon... if I had the time off available and the money to pay for it, I'd be reducing these puppies in a heart beat. I'd gladly donate the tissue to anyone who could use it.

Yeah, I make sure my goodies aren't perched on the edge of the bodice. Though I'm sure it might look that way to some people.

The thing I hate about boobs and bodices is the women who pull their boobs over the top of the bodice so they just kind of hang and swing in the breeze. It's unsightly and weird.

As for the implants thing, who am I to judge? If it makes a woman happy and gives her self-confidence then by all means, go for it.

Alright, that's it, I'm going to Lane Bryant this weekend and getting fitted properly. I badly need to buy bras anyways, because I don't have anything that fits. (The last time I bought bras, I was a 36DD, and I'm still wearing those, only because they've stretched out enough so I can still wear them without much of a double-bubble, and the fact that I'm poor and bras are expensive.) I've been under the impression that I'm a DDD, but I bet I end up being something like a G as well. Lane Bryant has bras buy-one-get-one-half-off, so I think it's time to hit that up. I'm looking forward to a bra that fits and supports correctly.

It seems as if, unless you're a healthy C cup, most women aren't happy with their boob size, in either direction. Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, eh? I mean, I'd love having boobs that were small enough to get away with not wearing a bra with the right dress, but the gals that have THOSE boobs would want more to fill that dress out. I hate ALWAYS having to wear a bra. It'd be so nice to be able to get away with not doing so in the right clothing.

Lord, I can't wait until I can either afford a breast reduction, or have insurance that will pay for it (preferably the latter.)

The authors wife is a tiny person with a large chest. Near the bottom of his FAQ page (http://www.wapsisquare.com/faq.html) he has links for resources for the more endowed ladies. I'm pleased to be able to still fit into Victorias Secrets (as long as I keep losing weight, not gaining). They are the most comfy for me. Sigh, I'd still give up my Ds to be a perkier smaller size. Post-kids I'll be going under the knife, not necessarily to make them bigger, just to hoist them back up where they belong.

Bonnie, whatever makes you happy is what's important. LS said it best; I've got nothing against plastic surgery, as long as it's what the person really wants and isn't using p.s. as a way of filling some void. But then again, if s/he is, I really don't care, either.

I've seen some breast jobs that were downright natural looking, and then I've seen the ones I refer to as the "stripper boobs." You know the kind, they look like melons perched on the chest. Whatever floats the person's boat, or as Mags says, puddles their wuddle. (Hee hee! I get such a kick out of that!)

For larger-sized bras (& lingerie, for that matter), has anybody tried out Hips and Curves (http://www.hipsandcurves.com/index~url~IND.htm)? I haven't, but I found them searching one day...

Why is it that stores that specialize in lingerie, don't carry sizes about a 38DD? I'd love to try the new "Body" bra by VS, but they don't even come close to making one to fit me.

I'd love to get a reduction,(prolly to a D-cup) and while they're in there, have them do that procedure that basically builds a bra in your breast tissue. That way, when not wearing a bra, they still look perky, instead of droopy.

You and me Myf. Now if I could just win the lottery to afford to have the procedures, quit my job so I could have plenty of time to heal and buy a new wardrobe for my new perky boobies. :-D
This is interesting, I will researche it a little bit more, even if I cannot afforded now.

And therein lies the challenge. :sigh:

I have a feeling that if I pushed my insurance company and got a recommendation from my doctor, I could get one paid for. Starting next January, I have three weeks of vacation time and plenty of sick time (though that might increase too...) and I'm sure I could take a medical leave if needed.

the wardrobe is all on me, however LOL. Given my back problems and family history of breast cancer, I'm thinking that a reduction might be the ticket in the near future.

Yeah, if I HAD insurance, I could probably get them to pay for it. Lord knows the back problems aren't getting any better.

As soon as possible...

And I wonder if the internal breast lift part would be covered by insurance.

Ok for the last 2 years I have been seriously considering a "re-fluff" I simply want to have what I used to have. Someone my rogue works with calls her post-children/over 40 breasts "beaver-tails" and that's the best description i have heard so far! We have done tons of research and I have seen and felt some really natural like boobie makeovers. I have concerns about how to deal with implants in bodices and my recent surgery has kinda made me re-think the whole recovery thing. It's a very very personal issue and not an easy decision. Never something that should be done to please anyone else........ but i think if it makes you feel like strutting rather then fading into the background among your more-endowed sisters do it!

As someone who has had a reduction, here is a fact that will make it possible for your insurance to cover the cost (at least mine did)

According to my doctor, if you measure from the collar bone down, your nipples should be approximately 9" below the collar bone. (mine were 16 1/2"!! and I was only 32 years old)
I had lost 67 pounds but nothing from my boobage. I had severe grooves in my shoulders from bra straps and always a sore back.

I had my surgery on a Wednesday, was home by Saturday and back to doing most normal activity within 2 weeks. In fact, when I went for my 2 week check up, the doctor told me that if I wanted to, I could even go swimming, with the few remaining stitches still in! The only activity he advised to wait on was running/jogging, for obvious reasons.

I ran across my "before" picture the other day. All I can say is.... WOW! Was that really ME???

uhhhmmmm...

you ladies do know that you are supposed to be re-fitted for bras every 6 months or so?

I'm a 36DDD(or E, depending on the manufacturer) on my right side, and possibly an F on my left side. I go to a *fabulous* store in Cedar Rapids, called Fittings Unlimited. It's a store that specializes in post surgery, maternity, nursing, and plus size bras (since they all fall into "special needs") the service is first rate, I get a personalized fitting when I go in, and my fitter stops at *nothing* until she's found a bra that fits me the way it's supposed to.
So it's worth calling up a few places in the local phone book to see if any carry normal bras for bigger women.

Granted, one of these bras will set me back about $60, but it's worth it simply b/c it fits!!!!!!! No back pain, neck or shoulder pain, no "bra bulges" and my boobs are supported and don't hang down to my navel, which they would otherwise do. no, I'm not exaggerating.

The point is, the ladies at VS and LB mean well, and can usually peg you, but they aren't *trained* (the ones at VS just have a tape that tells them what size you are which they use to measure...I had a sports bra on one day, and after pestering me for a few minutes, I caved, she proudly announced that I was a 36C, I laughed in her face and told her I hadn't been a C cup since 5th grade.) Point is, they don't always know what they're doing.

Also, LB bras seem to be love or hate. My one bf loves 'em, the other hates 'em... :o) It's just different for everyone.

Focusing on your pecs (the muscles behind your breasts) with strength training will make your breasts *appear* larger and more "perky". They will have not actually grown. The reason is that your pec's are responsible for holding up your boobs (too much fatty tissue will stretch the skin out and then the only way to get them back up is to remove the skin via surgery. but all things being equal, a woman with better pec. tone will have perkier boobs than one with poorly toned pecs...), tone and tighten this muscle, and the fatty tissue on top will sit higher. Boobs will appear bigger b/c you have increased the size of the muscle beneath, thus pushing the fatty tissue further out.
Regardless of whether you want your boobs to look bigger or not, strengthening your chest and back muscles is an *excellent* idea for those women who have large breasts. The stronger musculature will help to bear the burden, rather than it all falling on your shoulders, or relying on your (potentially ill-fitting) bra.

Because of the stupidly convoluted way in which bra size is determined, it is possible to go down a band size and *up* a cup size after loosing weight. As the cup size depends on a formula involving the difference between the circumference of your ribcage just under your breasts, and the circ. of your breasts at the "largest" point.....It's a stupid formula, not easy to remember, and damn unhandy in general. I know know if a man came up with it, but whoever did should have been shot.

Hope this helps!!!
I'll try to attatch a pic of me in my bodice to another post, but I gotta figure out how to do that, and wanted to get this bit up first.

Hah!! Here ya go!!
The bodice is a Deva Deluxe by http://www.crimsongypsy.com
The girls standing next to me has boobs the same size as(middle pic) and bigger than (3rd pic) mine, but her bodice is built differently.
Goes to show how your clothing can really effect the percieved size of your "heavage".
The 3rd pic with the cav. hat is about three months earlier and 30 lbs. heavier than the first two. same bodice, tho! At that point, my boobs were easily an F and a G cup.

I've never met anyone who's had an issue with CG's work. So long as you take accurate measurements to use when picking what size, it'll fit like a glove. I've gained and lost 30 lbs. and that bodice has fit thru it all. It's 6 years old and will probably be in good enough shape for Eowyn to wear it in another 10 when she's old enough.

I cannot recommend her work highly enough, and I'm a stickler for good garb (it's Yso's fault, really....;o) that's well constructed. GO FOR IT!!!!!!

Hey, not sure where you live but I always get a TON of coupons for Lane Bryant both online and in the mail. I just updated my underwear collection so I don't need anymore for at least 6 months so you're welcome to my coupons any time you want:)

Anyway, at the moment I'm helping my "baby" sister with her boobage issues as my other sister and mom weren't as "blessed" as we were and have no idea where to go and what to do for her. The one thing I hate about being so ample is I love halter tops but can't wear them unless I want to walk around with severe neck pain and a hump:-P It'd be great if there could be a halter bra that still supported my girls without putting weight on the neck but I'm not sure that's possible. I tried wearing them with one of those bras with the clear plastic straps but to me that's kinda tacky looking and after awhile the straps start to hurt anyway.
