I don't think so Vixynne Rose, ( Quote: Well, some of the sentimentally-spiritual among us would say that when Mrs. Ramsey left this life, she got her answers...hope I'm not being too "Touched by an Angel" here.) I had the same thought as you. I hope that this guy gets the death penality if it's him.

I thought the same thing.

How awful it must have been for the Ramsey family to have lost that beautiful little girl. Knowing they were innocent and being "under the umbrella" all those years. How do you live with that horror on top of loosing your child?

I hope justice is swift and hard! Let this creature spend the rest of his life in jail.

now has of 13 AUG 06 Thailand had no status of forces agreement with the USA ( which means that a military member committing a crime there is held there and not turned over to the USA) Will He be turned over? IF jaskass has decent lawyers they may try that. Im not sure if Thailand has a extradition treaty with the USA or not.

A theory I read on another forum was that once the guy got arrested in Thiland for something, he realized that he'd be waaaaaaay better off in an American jail, so he went ahead and confessed to the murder, even though he had gotten away with it.

If that's really the case, I'm sure he'll gladly waive extradition.

Wondering... is this a death-penalty-eligible case? Cause that changes things a bit, many countries won't extradite a person who would face the death penalty if extradited.

According to reports on MSNBC, investigators were on the guy's trail for *months*, taking time and care to make sure they could make an arrest stick. The Ramseys were aware of who they were going after prior to Patsy's death, so she did indeed know that something concrete was in the works.

Apparently, Denver's new DA looked at the case in ways that the old DA did not and took the investigation in new directions rather than assuming that, despite two different grand juries that basically exonerated them, that someone in the family was responsible for Jon Benet's death.

I was listening to Elliot in the Morning today, a dude who was stationed in Thailand said that the penalty for stealing was WAY harsher than the penalty for murder. Weird, huh? He didn't say what the penalty for murder was, but the penalty for stealing was being tied up in the town square so people could beat you, spit at you, throw rocks at you ect., then on the third day, cut your hands off.

Suspect says kidnapping went awry
Karr confessed to the killing after his arrest Wednesday at his downtown Bangkok guesthouse by Thai and American authorities, said Lt. Gen. Suwat Tumrongsiskul, head of Thailand’s immigration police.
Suwat quoted Karr as saying he tried to kidnap JonBenet for a $118,000 ransom but that his plan went awry and he strangled her. Patsy Ramsey reported finding a ransom note in the house demanding $118,000 for her daughter.
“He said it was second-degree murder. He said it was unintentional,” Suwat said. He said Karr told Thai interrogators that he picked JonBenet up at her school and brought her to the family’s basement.

That's what he might be *saying* -- doesn't mean it's actually *true*. Look at the date -- December 26th -- *not* a school day. She was home with her family on Christmas day and was found dead in the basement on the morning of the 26th. Why would she have been at school on either the 25th or 26th, for starters? She was last seen, IIRC, asleep in her bed Christmas night. What, did she get up in the middle of the night and go to school?

He's also said that her death was 'an accident', but according to forensics reports as to how she died (and the sequencing of events leading up to her death) that it being 'an accident' is a total impossibility. Someone did what they did to her with *intent* to kill her.

'Accident', my ass.

What sickens me is this guy said they were in love:-P Friggen guy was just a pedophile who probably got upset with the girl and killed her. Maybe he wanted her to give him a kiss or something and she said no and threw a fit or wouldn't stop crying or something. Question is did he actually leave the house with her and put her back or did he maybe kill her in her bed and put her down in the basement to give himself a head start? I can't remember but she wasn't sexually assaulted or anything before she was strangled right?

Now they were saying this morning they weren't sure if the guy met her at school or saw her at a pageant but he didn't live far from their home in GA at the time. They also said the guy had sent numerous letters to the family about what he'd done and maybe that's what put the cops on his trail even though they'd been saying all the time that it was him.

The news people were talking amongst themselves about how it's always said how the internet is a dangerous playground for kids but is slathering your little girl in makeup and shiny costumes etc. for beauty pagents setting them up to be a pedophile's dream? What do you guys think?

I'm definately not a fan of covering kids in make-up to parade around like itty bitty Barbie dolls. I think it sends out a bad message. Playtime at home is great, but competing for who is the prettiest little girl at that age, when they're so impressionable, that could be pretty rough. Kids get it enough in school as it is.

Have you ever heard of Club Libby Lou? http://www.clublibbylu.com/party.aspx It's a horrible place (to me, anyway...) not because they sell kiddie sized make-up and stuff for play, but because they have actualy runway walks for kids and they dress the little girls like tiny tramps, complete with belly-baring halter tops, fake boobs, mini skirts (aw come ON!!), and outfits that a G Street hooker would most likeley be seen in.

I'm not a fan of beauty pageants by any means - adult or kiddie. I think they're nothing more than T&A auctions and they reinforce the Thin+big boobs = Beautiful stereotype. But at least the adults have a choice whether or not to participate. Most of the kids are in it because Mommy and Daddy decided to put them in one and the hype and attention was enough that the kid keeps at it. Mommy and Daddy are paying attention to them, lavishing these pretty dresses and jewelry on them, they get to play adults and entertain adults - sounds like a big ol' dress up party, eh?

The other bit, about them being in love... yeah, I heard that this morning as I was dashing about to head out the door. The only lady on the morning show had just come back from maternity leave and she about broke out in sobs upon hearing that. I later heard, same morning show news cast on the way to work, that this guy had major jones for abducted kid cases and said that he was writing a book about it. There was some case out in Washington? California? A supposedly really famous case of child kidnapping and he had articles, clippings, research, etc... and then, he tried to interview the Ramsey's shortly afterwards. how friggin sick is that?? when the parents refused, he spoke with the grandparents.

creepy.

It's not that I thought Patsy and John Ramsey were even remotely guilty of murdering their own daughter, but this whole thing has bothered me from the get-go for a lot of reasons.

I'm just horribly creeped out by the whole baby beauty pageant thing. At age six, JonBenet was a seasoned vet and watching the videotapes of her competing sickens me. It's so rehearsed, so fake, so staged - so incredibly creepy. Every move is calulated by these children's handlers. Putting make-up, false teeth, fake hair and making these children up to look like 20-year-old hookers - sending them out to sing a song and model clothing and compete in the ways they do is NOT for the children's benefit. I see the mothers of these poor girls (mostly girls) to be the equivalent of little league fathers who push their boys into being the athletic jocks they only dreamed about being - or trying to live vicariously through their kids in a vain attempt to fill some gaping hole for recognition.

These people are just plain sick. To force a child into doing anything beyond their age or abilities and then convincing both the kids and themselves that it's what the kid wants is at best grossly misguided. The child was 6 years old for chrissakes!

The difference between the stage mothers and jock fathers is that we still like in a male-dominant society. Pushing a boy to be athletic is damaging, but it doesn't general put that child in harm's way of pedophiles the way exploiting a small girl - a mere baby - to look, perform and act like a grown woman. It just absolutely panders to the exact thing pedophiles look for and exacerbates their already twisted view that there is some sort of consent and love connection with their young victims. So was this case with the alleged murdered claiming JonBenet loved him. Puhleeze!!!!!!!!

The fact this vermin spew is dwelling in Thailand is no coincidence. Thailand is notorious for it's trade in child pornography and it's turning a blind eye to the huge number of child sex slaves who are kept in brothels as captives and highly prized and sought out by the upper eschelon of Thai society, as well as visiting businessmen, etc. I daresay, I'm surprised Michael Jackson didn't take up residence in Thailand rather than Bahrain - although because Bahrain is a male-dominant society, it also turns a blind eye to the sexual exploitation of children and females in general.

Now I'm not saying I'm blaming Patsy Ramsey for her child's death. But I think it should have been a wake-up call for a lot of people, and it wasn't. Law enforcement in this case may have botched it big time, but it certainly didn't help that the Ramsey's were uncooperative merely because they were natural suspects. I would guess the main reason there was always suspicion that lingered over them was because (1) people who have nothing to hide, hide nothing - and it always seemed, because they were uncooperative, they were hiding something; (2) I think that a majority of people view JonBenet's "beauty queen" status to be pretty creepy and suspicious in the same ways I do.

I'm glad Patsy went to her grave with the knowledge an answer was near to this horrible question. But I'm betting she also went to her grave with some pretty heavy guilt as well - especially if she put two and two together and if the officials let she and John know that JonBenet's murderer had been stalking her and educating himself on every aspect of their family's life. I wonder if JonBenet had just been allowed to be an ordinary little girl and had not been made up to be some miniature adult, if she would have escaped being the prey of this sick bastard.

I just think we all have plenty of time as adults, we need to let our children be sweet, innocent and unspoiled for as long as humanly possible.

Eww, you know what though? I think I did hear on the news about a month and a half ago or so that Michael Jackson WAS looking into a new residence in Thailand! I remember when I heard it thinking 1. that I wasn't actually surprised by the news except to be surprised he hadn't gone sooner and 2. that maybe he finally creeped out his sheik friend and entourage enough that they no longer want him around.

A while back I saw a children's talent show at a local festival. A beauitful young girl, about five years old, with an incredible voice came on-stage in a ruffle-y, frilly short pink dress, a ka-jillion ribbons and barettes in her hair, patent leather shoes and white socks with pink trim. Her song was all about let's spend the night together. I wondered if she knew what she was singing about (I hope not). She won first place for her obvious talent but whoever spent so much time and effort on preparing her for this performance either has mighty poor judgement or a big problem.

I think contests should have rules about age-appropriate material. It doesn't have to be "Twinkle, twinkle little star," but little girls or boys singing about sex, young boys grabbing their crotch and thrusting their hips, is just plain wrong. Wrong for the children and wrong because it panders to perverts.

LOS ANGELES (Aug. 21) - John Mark Karr's return to the U.S. took him from clinking his champagne glass during a luxurious flight over the Pacific to a high-security jail where he was awaiting a transfer to face charges in JonBenet Ramsey's murder.
Los Angeles police detained Karr on a warrant from Boulder County, Colo., after he arrived in California from Bangkok, Thailand, and turned him over to the county Sheriff's Department late Sunday, said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.
A helicopter brought him from the airport to the sheriff's Twin Towers jail shortly before midnight in a sobering end to a day that began in Bangkok and included champagne and fine dining aboard a Thai Airways flight.
"He is going to be housed here in the men's jail, kept in isolation in a 6-by-9 room with a bed, a toilet no windows and no phones," Whitmore said. "He'll get regular food. He'll get jail chow, he won't get king crab, I'll tell you that."
Karr was to be held in a "high power" cell for noteworthy inmates, checked by guards every 15 minutes, and separated from other inmates who often target suspected child molesters, sheriff's officials said.
Boulder County authorities said Karr was expected to have an extradition hearing in Los Angeles within days, and would be taken to Colorado if he waived extradition. No hearing date was immediately set.
Karr, who last week suddenly
emerged as a suspect in a case long believed to have gone cold, told reporters in Thailand that he was with 6-year-old JonBenet when she died in the basement of her home on Dec. 26, 1996, but that her death was an accident.U.S. officials have been silent about what Karr told them during interrogations.
The 41-year-old school teacher's return to the United States was voluntary, and he was not handcuffed before or during the 15-hour flight.
Dressed in a red, short-sleeve, button-down shirt and black tie, Karr was whisked through Don Muang International Airport in Bangkok. He chatted with fellow passengers at the departure gate.
Aboard the jet he took a window seat next to Mark Spray, an investigator with the Boulder County district attorney's office. The escort also included a U.S. Embassy official and an agent with "Homeland Security" on his shirt.
Before takeoff, Karr took a glass of champagne from a flight attendant and clinked glasses with Spray, who sipped orange juice.
Karr first dined on pate, salad, fried king prawn, steamed rice, broccoli and chocolate cake. He also had a beer - crushing the empty can with his hands - and then had a glass of French chardonnay.
Karr appeared to order the drinks himself.
He later dined on roast duck with soy sauce and yellow noodles, and for his third meal had pizza, chocolates and a bottle of Evian.
He sometimes conversed with Spray, who took notes on some of the remarks. Karr told an AP reporter that it was "small talk."
Also during the flight, Karr flipped through movie channels, watched "The Last Samurai," dozed and made several trips to the restroom accompanied by two guards. Each time the door was left slightly ajar.
At one point he changed out of the red shirt and tie, replacing them with a blue polo, but then changed back into the shirt and tie before the landing.
Hours before Karr's departure, a doctor at a Bangkok clinic specializing in sex-change surgery said Karr had come in for treatment.
"He was one of my patients," Dr. Thep Vechavisit of the Pratunam Polyclinic said. He refused to provide further details.
Bangkok, where Karr lived on and off for two years, is regarded as a center for sex change operations. The Pratunam clinic advertises sex-change surgery for $1,625 - a bargain compared to U.S. prices, where male-to-female reassignment surgery can cost tens of thousands of dollars.
Karr, once detained on charges of possessing child pornography, in recent years apparently traveled to Europe, Central America and Asia to search for teaching jobs. He taught in at least two Thai schools.

The reasoning behind the luxury treatment was softening him up, developing a trust bond between he and the authorities. They figured that if they went at him, 'guns' blazing and verbal beat downs of interrogation, he'd clam up and they'd get nowhere.

As far as the agrument over this guys treatment...keep in mind...he was in business class...not first class. The upgrade was probably more due to the guys escorting him than the guy himself. Do you want all of them to be cramped back in coach with the kids? I think not.

And making a big deal about him drinking champagne? Puh...lease. I can go to the corner market and get a bottle of champagne for $5.99. Yeah it's crap but so is the "complimentary" stuff you get in business class.

Lot of people did, back in the day. Not too long ago, say tad more than a hundred years, foot-binding was still practice by many Chinese families. And the girls usually got married right after they hit puberty.

I think it's awful, personally... girl's develop mental/phsyical maturety at different rates, but I'm pretty sure 17-18 is the average. Still, I don't even think most 18 year olds are ready for marriage, but at least they have the choice.

Okay.

So who DID kill her?

That, dear Nikki, seems to be the $64 million question. My guess is we'll probably never know. But the other burning questions (to me) are, why the hell do mothers like the late Patsy Ramsey think it's a good thing to make a mere baby the object of obsession of any number of sick fucks like John Karr by dressing her up and parading her around like a $10 crack whore?!

The other question - why did the State of Colorado spend something like $2 million on this media circus of a manhunt, transport the guy first class from fucking Thailand, hold him in LA, extradite him to Bolder and THEN swab the bastard for DNA and find out he's not a match? What, they don't have fucking Q-Tips in Thailand?!

This whole thing has been one collosal clusterfuck since day one - the parents are idiots, the police are idiots, the prosecutors are idiots, the media is a hoarde of idiots and the (former) suspect is an idiotic sick fuck who got far more than his 15 minutes of (in)fame. There's another two weeks the American public can't get back.

Meanwhile, to quote my dear friend Ysobelle, "who DID kill that poor child?"

No Eric..... I feel the same way.

I mean, why this child, when there are kids abducted and murdered every day. Is it because she was a "child beauty queen"? from an affluent family?

As you said, there are far more important stories in the news.

Don't get me wrong... I'm sorry she died and for what her family has gone through but, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

I agree with you Eric. I had a friend who was murdred in high school years ago and it is still unsolved! There are so many horrible things going on in this world, this is not the ONLY story we should be covering in the news.

And like you, I am having a bad morning....Hang in there.

I must agree as well. I am sorry & saddened that the child died & in such a violent way. Will we ever know who killed her? Not likely. It would be great to find out & bring that low life to justice at last, but at this point, let the poor child rest in peace. Stop making a circus of her life & death when there are so many more important issues in the world that we must face on a daily basis.

I caught a snippet of radio news yesterday that basically said - in order to get a 'clean sweep' of Karr's DNA, it had to be under a court-order... hence the trip to the US... for it to be legally admissable, should this have gone to court.

*sigh* media circus - that, unfortunately, sums up just about anything that grabs print.
