Shedrick Hamilton uses the same phrase to describe his own actions that landed him in Oneida Correctional Facility in upstate New York for 15 months for having sex with a 16-year-old high school student he met while working as a Marine Corps recruiter.

Hamilton said the victim had dropped her pants in his office as a prank a few weeks earlier, and that on this day she reached over and caressed his groin while he was driving her to a recruiting event.

“I pulled over and asked her to climb into the back seat,” he said. “I should have pushed her away. I was the adult in the situation. I should have put my foot down, called her parents.”

As a result, he was convicted of third-degree rape, and left the service with an other-than-honorable discharge. He wipes the collar of his prison jumpsuit across his cheek, smearing tears that won’t stop.

“I literally kick myself ... every day. It hurts. It hurts a lot. As much as I pray, as much as I work on it in counseling, I still can’t repair the pain that I caused a girl, her family, my family, my kids. It’s very hard to deal with,” he says, dropping his head. “It’s very, very hard to deal with.”

wait...the 16 yr. old drops her pants, and then 'caresses his groin' and then is surprised to find herself on the backseat of the car?????? WHAT THE HELL WAS SHE THINKING WAS GOING TO HAPPEN?
uhm...yeah, he shoulda pushed her away, called her parents *AND* told her that her behavior is not only unacceptable, but disgusting. he had kids, was probably married, and she's just *GAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH*
It's true he was the adult, but at 16, frankly, she should have demonstrated a little more common sense and awareness of the potential outcomes of her actions. as in, she should have kept her hands to herself.

No it doesn't.

My father could tell you stories - as a recruiter during Viet Nam and working with the recruiting batallion these past 20+ years as a civilian.

A similar, two-page article was in yesterday's paper down here... they talked about it and I mostly listened. I can't say for 100% certain that this MSN article was a part of the FWST spread, but things like this have been going on for years - mostly the other way around with the Recruiters taking advantage of the women, not always the women coming on to them.

This girl appears to have been out for a ride and trawling for a lay. What saddens me more than the recruiter dipping his wick when he knew he shouldn't have is that a 16 year old girl is feeling him up and coming on to him.

eta - ok, I went back and read the online article. This is indeed the same one that hit the FWST yesterday.

Shouldn't the title of this thread be the other way around?

well, not really, the whole article focuses on the fact that largely it's the recruiters doing the preying, including drug-aided rape and other offenses.
they put the example i quoted in simply b/c it isn't them 100% of the time.
and there are some female recruiters who target young males as well.
I just couldn't believe the behavior of the 16 yr. old in this instance.
I mean JUZUS! she *really* needs a primer in appropriate behavior....

I think the overall point is that people sexually prey on other people.

I'm not sure the reason for pointing out any sub-category of people. Other than to try and make that group of people look bad of course.

I'm sure you'd find the same results if you looked at any particular group or type of people.
