Okay, I know this may be a really dumb question but since the manual for my sewing machine is still packed somewhere from my last move, I've gotta ask. I need to get some more bobbins but I have no idea what I'm looking for. Are they all pretty much the same or do different brand machines need certain ones? Do they come in sizes? If so, then how do I know which ones to get? :?

Yes, I just conquered my machine and now I think it's getting even! Eeep!

There are two main types-- the flat-sided metal ones that usually but not always go in older machines, and the newer ones which are slightly convex and usually clear plastic, though they, too, can be metal, especially if they go in an older machine. (The newer, clear ones are mostly for drop-in machines where you can see into the bobbin holder so you know how much thread you have left as you sew.)

Confused? Yeah. I don't blame you.

Go to the website for whatever machine brand you have, and look up the model. Often, you can download the manual from the site. If not, write down your machine's make and model, and take it with you to a decent sewing goods or sewing machine store. They should be able to help you determine which kind you need. And if all else fails, well, they're cheap enough that the sky won't fall if you buy the wrong kind. And we'll all still love you.

There should be a bobbin in your machine if you've been sewing - take it out and go to the store with it. Yes - machines can be bobbin specific, and model specific - my old Singer uses a different bobbin from my new(er) Singer.

Ah, how the brain fries when trying to sew garb at midnight three days before faire. :faint: *points up to advice* I'll write down the model and bring one of the bobbins with me to the store. I'll try and find the manual on-line, too....it'd probably be a good thing to have handy even when I don't need to look up parts. Thanks!!
