Good Day all,
I have been searching for a place to get some raw silk. You know the soft stuff. I wanted to try and make a nice shirt out of it. Does anyone know where I could find that?
Thanks :?:

www.dharmatrading.com is a good place to look. They'll sell you a couple of yards, or a whole bolt if you want to get it for less money per yard. It's undyed. I don't remember if it's bleach white or natural, but I think it's natural.

I haven't, but one of my friends has, and she loves them! She bought an entire bolt of raw silk from them once... loved it!

I DO have the whole sample card thing somewhere... But I think it's in a box right now. Their sample card is a bit expensive, but they give you a three inch by three inch swatch of everything they have... And I mean EVERYTHING. It's useful, really, because otherwise I might have bought their silk gauze for a chemise... Their gauze is a bit... see-thru. Wonderfully light, but see-thru.

The friend I referred to? Is the one who runs the reconstructinghistory.com website. She's an absolute genious with textiles. Her say-so is good enough for ME, that's for sure! :)

Well, we shall see, because I've already called them and ordered swatches of all 57 of their fabrics. I couldn't resist! Unfortunately, the timing will be tight-- the sale at Jo-Mar ends the last day of the month, which is the day the woman at Jack B's on Fabric Row-- the woman who gives me all those fabulous deals-- returns from a month in Aruba. (Gevalt!) I'm hoping the samples arrive by, say, Tuesday. By then, I might even have the first Stockwood funds. Well, we'll see. One way or t'other, I'll have lots of fine swatches of silk to choose from.

Thanks SO much! :spool:

The raw silk was the one I REALLY wanted, and that was the only one they didn't have when I ordered. But when I called, I spoke to a very nice woman named Mary Heather, and she said she'd look into it for me. She did, and as soon as the stuff came in, she mailed me THREE raw silk samples. It's lovely stuff. They're lovely people. I told them I'd definitely order from them in the future, and she was quite well chuffed about it.

So yeah, they're good folks.
