I teach in a high school that has 4 Christian Groups, 1 Islamic group and 1 Asian cultural Group. Several students have approached me about starting an "anything else" group or an earth based religion group. They have done this because they know that I have a very open mind. I am very good about keeping my religious preferences out of the classroom.
I would prefer that religion and school be COMPLETELY seperate. However; if these other groups are allowed on campus, then all student belief systems have the right to be represented. Equality and all.

After approaching our principal about starting the group and then convincing him that earth-based religions were not like Nazism and that we would not advocate the use of illigel drugs, (We are in Texas, what can I say) he asked for information on other student groups of this type. Does anyone have any information on this? How have the groups been formed? What kind of problems did the school face with these groups and the community? Etc....

My belief system is fairly solitary and I do not have the contacts to know where to look for this information. As far as I have been able to tell, no student group of this sort exists in my area or even in Texas associated with a school .

I would appreciate any information anyone has. These students are good kids who are feeling ostracized because they do not believe what the "mainstream" group in school believes.

Thank you
Kae

I would check out college groups. I don't know of any HS ones, but then again I came from a catholic education.
Michigan has one green spiral I think, and OSU has the PSA.

Our college has a group called "Ancient Altars". They might be willing to give you information. I haven't really talked to anyone in it since I graduated the first time, so I wouldn't know who to tell you to contact. Here's the webaddy:

For what it's worth, I heard that there was an all-Asatru (Norse paganism as a quick explanation) Boy Scout Troop in Texas. Sorry, but that's the extent of what I know. :)

*hugs*

I know that UNC Chapel Hill had a group for Neo-pagan/Wiccan studies. But it's been a LONG time... Mayhaps you could check out WitchVox and see if you can't find other similar groups to contact for info/ideas?

Hope that helps....

I don't know if this helps or not, but when I was at Fort Jackson, SC last fall for Basic Training, they asked if anyone was Wiccan and even had a time set aside on Sundays for those that were. I was rather surprised myself, but it was a great time to be able to just be alone and mediatate for an hur to regroup. Good Luck!

Thank all of you for your help. I am going to try out Betwixt and Between this week. I know several down there. There is an internation Pagan Scout troop for girls and boys in our area. The kids love it, especially the camp outs. :D

Again, Thank you and I will keep you posted.
