View Full Version : Who Am I?

One Monday morning a mailman is walking the neighborhood on his usual
route As he approaches one of the homes he noticed that both cars were in
the driveway. His wonder was cut short by Bob, the homeowner, coming out
with a load of empty beer and liquor bottles.
“Wow Bob, looks like you guys had one heck of a party last night,"
the mailman comments.
Bob in obvious pain replies, "Actually we had it Saturday night. This
is the first I have felt like moving since 4:00 am Sunday morning. We had
about fifteen couples from around the neighborhood over for a Halloween
party and it got a bit wild. We got so drunk around midnight that we
started playing 'WHO AM I'."
The mailman thinks a moment and says, "How do you play that?"
"Well all the guys go in the bedroom and we come out one at a time
with a sheet covering us and only our "privates" showing through a hole in the
sheet. Then the women try to guess who it is."
The mailman laughs and says, "Damn, I'm sorry I missed that."
"Probably a good thing you did," Bob responds, "Your name came up four
or five times."

Hate to be a wet blanket, but as someone who had a mailman hit on me. I find these jokes pretty disturbing.

Ok, well this isn't your mailman, it's a joke...A JOKE. Would it be less disturbing if I changed it to a UPS man?

Wow.. hey! :stunned:
That was a little unfair. She's just as entitled to feel disturbed about it as you are to get annoyed that she didn't find it funny. I think she knows it's a joke.
Chill a bit, eh? Not all of us find the same jokes funny for one reason or another. And, who knows, maybe it was more than just getting hit on.

You're right. Just had a pretty bad last few days. Didn't mean to be a wet blanket.

Not everyone needs your lectures Sarah, I was asking if changing it to UPS man would make it less disturbing...which to me was a step towards being helpful. It was a JOKE, not intended to be offensive and I really didn't think I needed to get into that...I can read and understand that she didn't think it was funny. The unfair police don't need to make a stop here. Taken to PM.

Ok, so, to follow your logic, if a blonde is disturbed by blonds jokes we shouldn't tell those, and if a person considered "right-wing" finds comments made about them disturbing then those shouldn't be made either. Yes?

Actually, you'd be assuming out of context. I neither said that nor hinted at it. If you'd stopped to read it before automatically jumping to MFS' defense, you'd have seen that.
So, I'll say it as simply as I did the first time around: not all of us find the same jokes funny. No need to assume that they shouldn't be told because they aren't funny to said person. Does that mean that because you find it funny, that everyone else should?
The reason I posted as I did is because I read MFS' post to be rather rude in response to an objection. It came off snarky to my eyes and I weighed in with my own opinion.
Take it or leave it.

To be honest Sarah, the first thought that comes to my mind here is, "there's the pot calling the kettle black". Even if I was being snarky, I have that right without you jumping on my back like you are my mother. If MM felt I was being snarky or rude to her, she could respond to me on her own, as an intelligent adult and my apology would follow forthwith if I felt it appropriate.
As far as Gellis, we were online at the same time last night and she saw the thread and responded. It appears to me she simply made her own observation of your comment. I don't need anyone coming to my defense, I can speak for myself (and obviously I will as far too many others will not) and for a long time rather enjoyed your posts but lately I'm just getting tired of your snobbery and holier-than-thou-ness. It would be refreshing to find the Sarah that didn't used to jump all over everyones posts because she found them ill-fitting in some way.
MM didn't get the feeling I was being rude to her, and she was the one I was responding to, so...to use your term...Chill a bit.

Oh, but wait....if you'd stopped to read what I said before jumping to your own defense perhaps you would have read MY post differently as well. I'm merely saying that there are others of us that find many things said here as offensive but don't make a point of pointing that out to the entire group.

And I read your response to be extremely rude, so I weighed in with MY own opinion. That opinion happens to be that there is an awful lot of hipocracy that occurs on these boards. Sort of an "I'll defend your right to state your beliefs, as long as your beliefs agree with mine" attitude.
Merely my own opinion.
And as an aside, I know MFS well enough to know she doesn't need ANYONE to come to her defense.

I did read your post, quite carefully in fact. It was very plainly said - and without the benefit of sarcastic inflections that come from speaking, I chose to take it at typed value. What struck me about your post most of all above the immediate defensiveness of it was "Sure, post all the jokes you want - someone's going to not think they're funny. You going to jump all over them with both feet too?"
So, why can't someone say they find the example jokes offensive? We take it for granted that everyone finds it funny because no one says different... yet when someone does, there's the response of "it's just a joke!" Talk about hippocracy... someone posts a joke and someone else mentions that they don't find it funny and they're bounced on because they dared to object.

I'm sorry you misread my post, there was by no means any defensiveness. I have nothing that I need to defend.
Yes, part of my point was that there's ALMOST always going to be someone that finds any joke "offensive" or, to use MM's word, "disturbing". But no, I was not asking if anyone was jumping on them with both feet, I was merely stating that a lot of people say things here that disturb others, but not everyone draws attention to their discomfort. That was in NO way pointed at MM.
People are welcome to state their dislikes of jokes, I have no problem with that; and if you reread this thread, I think you will find this to be the case.
My statement about hipocracy didn't really apply to the Fluffy and Funny section, more to the "We've Got Issues" section, so my apologies for addressing a frustration I have in the wrong section on this board.

They certainly can. Free forum to say what you want. Just stop pointing fingers and jump off the soap box when something has already been explained.
MM knows I didn't 'bounce' on her, she's okay with it so why are you HARPING on that particular point when I have already posted that is was taken to PM and that MM didn't find me to be rude.
Translation:
"Ok," aka I gotcha "well this isn't your mailman," aka it isn't targeted at your mailman specifically "it's a joke" and meant as such at posting "...A JOKE." picture me holding up both hands repeating myself again, no alterior meanings "Would it be less disturbing if I changed it to a UPS man?" a question I REALLY meant!
Now, STOP - just STOP and get over it already!!!! If you have anything further to say about it I would be happy to talk about it through PM's but please stop with it on the boards.

oh, wow.... fine then, I'll respond to this in PM if it's bothering you that much.
Thanks ladies for taking this off a "Fluffy and Funny" thread, it most certainly wasn't fluffy or funny for the rest of us........
