Fits between your boob my rear. I HATE that shoulder strap. it puts pressure on my collarbone and pushes at me left boob and hurts like heck. And I got a ticket for pulling it down under my bust so it wasn't smashing my nipple in.
OK, rant terminated

Actually. It just happened last week.
I'm a pretty short person and the way the shoulder strap hit is very uncomfortable.
I use a close pin and clip it at the buckle to keep the shoulder strap lower.
I was at a stop light and a cop pulled up beside me and motioned for me to roll down my window, he asked why I wasn't wearing a seatbelt and the pulled the shoulder strap up to show him I had it on and he asked why is was pulled down like that. I told him if I wore it the other way it practically beheads me.
He asked weather or not I had a doctors’ note saying I had to wear my seatbelt other than the way manufacture’s recommend. I said no, and he told me to pull over.
He wrote me a ticket and said I needed medical documentation to wear the seatbelt differently than the manufacture’s instructions. Without a doctor’s note, not wearing it “properly” is the same as not wearing it at all.
My court date is in a week. So if anyone of the cops in your office has advice, I welcome it.

This is what I would Try.....
Take a few photos showing you with the seat belt as it would be without the clip. Be sure to show how when driving it would be a distraction.
Also try to get a Doctor to give you a letter to present at trial.
Maybe you will get lucky. Good Luck

MM - That *really* sucks! Can't help you on the ticket-thing, but there is another way that you can legally modify the way the seatbelt rides.
There's a clip you can purchase at the autoparts store that connects down where the lap-belt and sholder-belt connect. It clips the two together (it's adjustable for a perfect fit) and shifts where the sholder-belt starts to come across your body.
It's fabulous for us short folks. We're no longer running the risk of decapitation (which is always messy) and it makes for a way more comfortable ride. They actually *recommend* it's use with children who have outgrown the car seat, but are still a little short.
There also is an extender for those who are overweight. My parents have them on both front seats so they don't feel like the seatbelt is cutting them in half at the waist.

Ya know I'd like to meet the person who these things are modeled for. Must be some 5 foot 9 140 pound person that a very small percentage of the population actually comes close to 'measuring' up to.
