Ok ladies.

A month ago I got a fabulously terrible bodice burn. It has since peeled and healed. It has been well moisturized. But in the past few days it has been itching so badly that I can hardly stand it. And I mean losing-what- little-of-my-Mind-is-left itchy. I know I'm damaging the skin by scratching, but I can't help it.
There is no rash and no sort of bites anywhere. I've tried moisturizer, Solarcaine, more moisturizer, cold compresses (which seem to work the best but only for a short time), and recently, the Eucerin Calming Creme for itchy skin. But I'm still itchy!!
HELP!!!

Sounds like there might be some deep tissue healing going on there. I remember the worst burn I ever had was from a tanning bed and I turned a near shade of fuschia for a few days. I itched for weeks and it was all deep under the skin, like a foot fallen asleep was just coming back sort of tingle. That's what the doc told me at least.

You might want to call your doc, just to be safe.

And cooling gel or something like that. I personally love plain old Eucerin or Lubriderm with a bit of peppermit oil in it. It's Swondafee!

Also, there's a blue gel out there in with the tanning stuff that's a cooling thing. You even put it in the fridge. It's works really well on subborn burns. I picked some up yesterday since I went to the Busch race in Dover and I'm now a very interesting color.

Sarah is right. If it was a particularly gnarly burn, you've got some deep tissue healing going on, it happens to me at least once a summer. It's the worst, you want to just tear your skin apart. You should definately call the doc, especially if it persists. You can actually get an infection from the burn under the skin.

Try to find some Benadryl spray!
I'm prone to skin rashes, and it can literally save the day!!
Wish you the best of luck, too!

I'll have to look for some of that tomorrow....if I can stand it that long. I'm gonna have to wear mittens to bed or something.

Don't scratch...pat, tap and slap...it will kill the itch and won't damage skin.

Oatmeal. Really.

Grind it up in the food processor and cook it. Stick it in the fridge and pour it on yer bewbies.

When I get hideous burns, I use oatmeal. It's got Vit e in it, among other things, so it'll soothe and hydrate too.

Try some good old fashioned Noxema. That's what I ALWAYS used to put on sunburns. Now I just try really really hard to not get sunburned.

I used that too. Everyone's got great advice here my dear. I'm actually fairly allergic to the sun, even a few minutes exposure leaves me pink and itchy and a whole day in the sun with high spf and no sign of a tan or pink at all will leave me horribly itchy. I look like I have a rash when I come back from lunch to work just from the drive. Me hate sun, stabs it with pointy thing.

Thanks for all the advice. The itch is starting to calm down a bit. It seems to be the worst in the evenings.
Neosporin seems to be working the best so far.

Agreed, everyone has some great suggestions. I'm going to throw my .02 worth in here too. I do alot of work with aromatherapy and herbs and have come up with my own formulas for salves that take care of much of this. Basically if you can get lavender and Tea Tree oils, a couple of drops of each mixed together will help the skin to heal and stop the itching. I use them "neat" with no harm (they are 2 of the few that you can do that with). You can also use a comfrey poltice or tea to help the skin heal itself.
Good luck with your itchy/scratchy!

*guffawsnortcoughLOLgiggle* Nice phonetics (bewbies! *giggle*)...but now I have to go scrub my brain with a sonic toothbrush for the images of Goldilocks that I just conjured up.

Use the lavender oil and chammomile oil on there after you get out of the shower to help with the itch, with that combo mix it with olive oil to make a good massage oil.. I donno about the Tea Tree oil if you are trying to calm the itch.. but my brain is shot right now. But totally try the lavender oil! Also there is this great stuff that Burts Bees makes it's a foot creme but it rocks anyway!! It's called Mama Bee Cooling Foot creme. it has peppermint and rosemary extract in it and it cools where it is rubbed soo nice I am even gonna keep it in my Fair Kit after the critter is born!

Hope this helps you with your itch..

This is one time I know EXACTLY what you mean!
(and exactly where you mean, and exactly how much you are scratching...)

And yet somehow I fail to detect any sympathy or empathy in your tone!!;-)

I really like all the info- I know with me, my mom used an oatmeal bath to help heal me with my itches when i was young. We also use the aloe gel and stick it in the fridge- feels great on the skin. Luckily i've never had deep tissue stuff, but tell me what works so when I do- I know what to do. ;-)

Burt's Bee's After Sun Soother has been very helpful for mine, (a husband with smooth hands and a gentle touch works nicely too!)
