I feel like i went from virgin to crone without the mother....I know in my mind that not having kids doesn't not make me in the "mother" stage but the heart is freaking. at 38 I am a long way from crone but I feel all sucky!

so ladies- is the best yet to come or what?:ow:

Oh HELL YES sister! If you aren't planning on having kids let the gods take that crap away, lol! I can't wait for menopause to come knockin at my door!!

Listen, I'm 41 - I've done the kids thing. When they are little it's great, when they are teens it can be hell, especially if they are girls and pms hits. If felt so sorry for my husband when he had three pms-ing bitchy ass girls in the house at the same time!! The youngest one is almost 18 and now it's time for US to play again, do what we want, so this time of our lives is turning back to party-time. Sure, we can't do it like we used to, but I'm really enjoying life as it is.

Don't feel like a crone, you're just beginning to live, on your own terms! Life is going to be what you make out of it. Just let yourself live, don't take crap, and enjoy what the planet gives ya!

Oh, honey, I was in my early 30s when I went peri. It was a shock. It took me about 10 years to be through with it all.

I do believe, for some of us, there is a grieving time when we realize we have started menopause.

There are some super books out there. One is called, "It's Not Your Mother's Menopause"....at least I think that's what it's called. I found it helpful even though I was through meno years before.

Look forward. Being a Crone (when you get there) is wonderful! It really is all about what you make of your life.

Sorry if I sound a bit motherly. I have kids older than you....well...one child older than you are. The rest are creeping up there too. My youngest was 29 yesterday.

When I was 30 my OB/GYN said I was in Peri as well. It is not bad though it can last ages. I was having hot flashes then but this last year it has just been the heavy bleeding. So far the end is no where in sight.

Enjoy your life. Cherish yourself and your contributions. Children are not the end all be all of life! You are a wonderful woman with decades left of pure wenchy goodness to contribute.

What gets me the most i think is the books that are telling me-
no caffine (What- i don't drink coffee but i have to have a diet pepsi!)
no dairy (Hey leggo of my cheese! I like my milk!)
no chocolate!!! we won't even go there!
no refined sugars & bread- I can work on that but but cutting completely out is out of the question.
no alchol- not a biggie i drink about half a bottle one night at events- I can cut that
no smoking- I don't smoke so no biggie

then there is the lose weight but drink 2 cups of juice a day. get calsium but no dairy....i can't eat that much broccli!! eat soy- yeah but you don't want to be around me it does evil things to me.

every web site isjust pushing their own brand of cream or pills.

Black cohash. Try that. It's supposed to reduce the hot flashes and such. I have friends that swear by it, and they are in the full fledged stages of menopause. It was even suggested by their doctors when the research about estrogen came out.

Let me tell you that I did menopause by my own choices.

You know your body better than anyone. Do what feels right for you. If it bothers you...stop. Simple.

You've got it together. This is just a small detour. You'll make the right choices for yourself.

I'm not supposed to have the caffeine, okay, no worries. No smoking - also okay. I'm okay with cutting back on sugars, breads and dairy and even alcohol...BUT HOLD ON!!! Take away a girls chocolate - you might as well SHOOT ME!! It's like a sanity pill some days!!
