Does anyone know of a good website for inexpensive pirate hats?
I'm in search for a nice hat, that's not to expensive (to expensive means not over $50) and can hold up in the heat and rain.

www.crownandfeather.com
They have gorgeous privateer hats that range from basic black with no trim to elaborate ones with tatted lace trim and braid on the edge of the underside of the brim encircled with tons of ostrich feathers.
I have one of the elaborate ones and it's stunning -- at least 4 ostriches gave up their asses for this hat! :) It cost me 65.00....the basic ones are less, but I'm not sure of the exact amount.
They're strudy felt, so you'd have to Scotchguard it for the rain (mine got caught in a downpour before I got to do this to mine, so I need to email them and find out how much it'll cost to have some repair work done --the feathers need to be replaced along with the lace trim -- dye from the hat seeped into the white lace)...but they'll hold up to heat well. The brim is wired, so you can bend it to whatever shape you want -- a more tricorn look, one side flipped up (I wear mine this way with my Privateer Guild pin on the side).
I love mine. I feel very Pirate-y in it. Arrrgh! :)

Lady MacSnood is now carrying a plain cavalier hat with plume. It is nicely priced and looks as though it could be easily trimmed to what you might want.

Wow... thank you Ariyana, so many sites to choose from. :D
Alianna, did you have to special order your hat from Crown and Feather?
If not, which hat did you order on their site?

I bought my Crown and Feather hat in person at Tux.
I noticed that they don't have it in their online catelog yet, but if you email them and ask about their Cavalier hat, I'm sure Cheryl can give you the particulars about the various prices for them (trimmed and untrimmed).

Ok, I will do that. I was wondering if the hat is a wide brim or on the narrow side. I tried on a wide brim and it didn't look good on me.
I will ask her that to. :D
If you're any good at sewing, something that I did a while ago that works like a charm is to take one of those old-style felt hats (I've picked them up at SCA events for as little as $5, as much as $10), and fold the sides up into the tricorn shape, and tack them into place.
My hat started out as one of Joe's inexpensive hats that unfortunately got caught in Hurricane Floyd (he ruined two hats that weekend). He thought it was hopeless, or would have to reblock it, but never found anyone who could reblock it for the original price of the hat (he just bought another one). I decided to get creative.
I took the hat, flat, and sewed lace to the UNDERSIDE of the brim, facing inwards. Then I picked up three sides of the hat with big kilt-pins (hidden under the lace), and voila! Instant pirate hat on a budget! :) A yard of lace, two bucks for kilt pins at jo-ann's, and an old felt hat that wasn't going to be used for anything else. :) One of these days, I'm probably going to embellish it a bit more, add some feathers or other bits, but it's an inexpensive way to get a custom hat! :)

Wow, you've been busy. Sounds like a great bargin you got there. :)
I myself would rather buy one and go from there. *lazy*
I have a few pieces of pirate garb I want to "try" to make and just buy the accessories.

I saw the sweetest pirate pants the other day and I know I can make them. They are high waisted with a trap door in the front. I was wondering what type of fabric I should use?
